    Unexplained lines on scans

    Hi

I hope someone can give me a solution: I have a FS-3140 (About 1 year old) and a FS-1128 (Installed today out of the box). When scanning through the DP there are unexplained lines through the copy on the FS-3140 a single yellow line and on the FS-1128 two blue lines. Here is the problem: This only happens when you scan something through the DP, when you make a copy through the DP there are no lines. both machines are configured for network scanning.

Play with U068. I set one to -30 and haven't had a call in a week (-15 wasn't enough). You might have to adjust lead edge U071. Normally, 3140s don't let you access U068, so unless you have the super-secret code, you'll have to drag your tech rep over to put it in.

U411 might fix this too, but I don't like automatic adjustments, and I don't have the paper to adjust with.

This may sound silly, but I would try and scan from the platen and see if the line is there. I would also try and scan to a USB and see if the line is there. It could be something on the glass or mirror that is picked up when scanning in color but not there when printing in B/W (kind of like yellow highliter that gets copied in color but not there in B/W).
If at first you don't succeed, redefine success

Agreed. It's usually the glass. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

hi, just to be picky the FS-1128 is B/W only, so lines cant be blue? Ok out of box check that none of the tape/gum that covers the scanner release yellow slider is on the slit glass and clean the glass anyway.
you can use the print with the lines on as a guide to where the offending spec is. do that for both printers.
            hope this helps.

I beg to differ, madas. It's a b&w only printer, but a color scanner, and Keymaster is referring to scans.

I would remove the slit glass and lay it on some white paper. It's a lot easier to see the contaminants. I took these shots for an absentee enduser, that said that it could not possibly be the slit glass. She had wiped it. Unfortunately, there is a difference between wiping and cleaning.

oooppss you are quite right blackcat!! I am guilty as charged on this one. LOL
I saw the word copy and thought when Keymaster mentioned scan i assumed the copy was from the scan, "if that makes sense"

I fixed one recently by setting scan default to B/W instead of color..Haven't heard back in a month. This customer has my cell number and would have called by now

                            fs-1128mfp colred scanning lines

I am fighting this same issue with a customer colored lines when scanning with document feeder. except twice I hace cleaned the DP glass it has gone away. Then the next day customer calls back and the lines are in a different spot. If you lay paper on glass all is fine.
