I have a copystar 3232e color machine displaying the message, "open tray 1 and remove paper from inside machine". No paper in side, blew out the contacts, tried another tray, swapped the feed heads, and lift motor. With no paper in tray it tells you to load tray, with 1 sheet in tray it's happy but with a stack of paper you get the open tray..... message. Anyone see this before?

This sounds like you have a default media type set in your print driver. Please read the entire message. I think you'll find that it includes something like "Load A4." or "Load letterhead". Essentially a very specific paper size or media type that is not currently present. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
