    [CQ] FS 3140 GREYNESS FIX

Not sure if this is the right spot...

I was working on a fs 3140 and the copies were coming out with a grey background... I ran a drum refresh... And a developer refresh... I cleaned the transfer roller and the issue actually got worse... I troubleshooted it to the fuser unit...

    That raised some flags...

Another tech went the next day and the copies were light with a little greyness on the edge...

Apparently... The issue was working itself out...

To get rid of the issue completeley he did two things...

He adjusted the copies to be a 2 degrees lighter...

And he shook the toner until you could feel it loose like water... Shaking for about 3 minutes he said...

    Then ran a drum refresh...

    And a developer refresh...

    And the issue was resolved...

This might save you from ordering a fuser unit one day for an fs 3140 mfp

i questioned him about an issue with lightness on grey on km 8030 and he told me that if you just shake the toner for about 3 minutes or until you can feel it loose like water... Then the lightness on grey resolves itself...

He also said that this little trick clears up a lot of issues that you wouldn't normally think it would...

Just wanted to share with the group...

    Re: FS 3140 GREYNESS FIX

    Please excuse my skepticism.

The developer refresh and/or the drum refresh might help. But shaking toner cartridges? The toner currently in use is in the developing unit already. How can shaking the cartridge do anything for the toner in the developing unit?

I can't speak for the FS-3140MFP, but on the Harrier it's much more likely that you've got a primary charge, transfer charge, separation charge, or developer bias issue that is intermittent. These charge related issues will come and go multiple times in a single print job. If you print 10 pages 3 will look great, 3 will look terrible, and 4 will be somewhere in-between. A tech looking for a good excuse to close the call could find a couple good "After" samples to attach to the workorder, ignoring the other pages.

Shaking toner cartridges on an AIO cartridge? Maybe.
Shaking toner cartridges where the developing unit is separate? I am skeptical.

3 minutes? It's good exercise. I prefer curls myself.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
