Taskalfa 500ci [Is it a good idea to run pre-printed shells through the machine]

In our print shop we have a lot of car wash (ticket book) jobs and i was thinking on running the pre-printed (carbonless 2 part papers) through the 500ci to number them. Will it be cost effective and how long will the fuser last. I will be running approximately 3-4 jobs a month with a run amount of 20,000 each time. Currently my press man is doing the jobs on an old Heidelberg letterpress and I'am fed up with that machine!!! Ant input would be appreciated. The machine (500ci) is brand new and I also have the option to buy another 420i if it will be more cost effective, since it is a black and white. Attached is an example of the job that will go through the machine. The numbering goes under the "invoice". Also should I perforate the papers before or after running it through. Will it jam inside the machine if its perforated?

Your idea is the worst one I have heard all day (and that's saying something).

Would you care to elaborate? I have heard people do it on different copy machines. The toners are no problem because I can get them for pennies.

Do you really want to try and find out?

Base on your 20,000 per job, 2/3 times a month, your hitting maximum real-life duty cycle of the machine. It aint gonna last.

Nevermind jamming, you're considering bushing/bearing oil drying up, baking plastic housing around the fuser...etc

Dont blame the machine when it becomes problematic.

Here are a few of my thoughts:
          • The clay's and other chemicals in the NCR paper you want to use have traditionally wreaked havoc on copy machine fusers, feed tires, and transfer belts.
          • Long runs with very low toner coverage (less than 2%) will cause some premature wear to certain components in your machine. Along with showing up as marks on paper, toner helps keep drums and mag rollers clean and working evenly. when you churn toner too long it doesn't work as well.
          • Toner isn't pennies, it is the most expensive part of the copy process, it cost more then all the other preventative maintenance items combined.
          • Why spend $0.075 to print a number on a piece of paper that you already paid to have printed. Sequential numbering is a pretty standard feature on NCR forms.
I could go on but i don't want to.

Thank you guys for the valuable information. I guess I have to buy one of these NumberJet PMV 3 Part Carbonless Numbering - YouTube I didn't say toners are worth pennies, I said "I" can get them for pennies.

Kyocera's toner is specially made for the special drum that it uses.

Third party toner is not recommended.

I know, I was talking about real Kyocera toners.

Carbonless forms have been destructive on every machine that I've seen them run through, and it's not just about that waxy residue it leaves on every component in your machine. The 14# to 16# paper likes to jam in every copier I've ever seen. You should roll in the cost of a fuser and at least an hours cleaning for every run.

You will significantly shorten the life of your machine. Best advice? Don't do it. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                  1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                  2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                  3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                  4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                  5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks blackcat for the advice, I guess I will not be doing that.
