Kyocera 400ci 'add toner' message after new installed

    Hi all

This machine is requesting a new black toner yet a new genuine Kyocera toner has just been replaced.

The black dev unit was replaced within a month ago.

I know the dev motor is running as I can see the auger turning by fooling the machine into thinking the door is closed with a toner cartridge installed and using my mirror to see down the toner chute.

the one thing I did notice was I never saw the motor/gears running which are behind the black toner cartridge to turn it........

The machine gives no error code though.....

I do know the firmware is not current but I don't have the current firmware to load.......

    Any pointers anyone?

    thanks in advance

Start with the simplest thing. Often this time of year the toner can get compacted in the cartridge. I'd take the cartridge outside somewhere, and beat on it to break up any clumping/compacted toner in the cartridge. If you pay attention you should be able to feel the weight of toner shift inside the cartridge from one side to the other. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

      Thanks Blackcat4866

I have already investigated and can feel the toner move freely as you suggested.

        Hi

Is the motor in the picture below the black toner motor?

In our experience once you have ruled out the dev unit and the toner cartridge, it is often the Toner drive motor assembly, the motors still rotate but loose their torque so cannot turn when the drive is engaged into the toner cartridge.

We had one on an Alphard the other day doing the same thing. It turned out to be the lower right cover had popped open, but the machine didn't say anything about the cover being open. Closed it & it started adding toner.
            Hope that helps !

              thanks all

after running U135, the black toner motor failed to turn so I swapped it with a known working one. I run U135 again only to see the black toner motor not work still!

Changed the engine controller to fix!

              Again thanks for the help.

I've done this before too. Just try to find any reference whatsoever to the RFID PWB. The only mention is in the main circuit diagram in a microscopic font (thank you "Search" function). =^..^=
