CS-5501 fuser roller double images at 83k

I went to a call for double imaging today on a Copystar/ Kyocera CS-5501i with only 83k on the entire mfp, I removed the fuser and cleaned the excess residual toner on the upper fuser roller ( the cause of the double image), I feel this is a temporary fix for the time being, they are using an aftermarket toner. The mfp doesn't have any dusting or residual toner on the drum or throughout the mfp so my question is... Is this a common occurrence for the fuser on this particular model (possible TSB) or could their use of the aftermarket toner causing this issue? Thank you for your time.

    Hi Waterman...

You answered your own question.....Aftermarket toner is the problem. The double imaging is not an unusual problem with aftermarket toner.

    Have fun

Thank you, Geo, you confirmed my suspicions. I'm wondering at this point if an OEM toner will correct this issue or if it contaminated the developing unit and will need to be replaced, I suppose I will order an OEM toner and see what happens.

If you'd like to accelerate the process it take about 100 pages of 30% fill images to entirely deplete the developing unit. That's the simple way.

I've replaced 4 of these fusers with the heat roller toner buildup and all of the machines are using OEM toner. There is a problem with these units, as none of them had over 150K on them, and for whatever reason, so far it only happened on 5501's.

Hmmm.. interesting, thank you for the response Hose1. I'm wondering if there has been a TSB out about this issue and if there have been steps to resolve it besides replacing and entire fuser that the supposed life expectancy is 600k?

Very interesting is right. The fusers were on back order for about 3 weeks, so if there was no ongoing problem why were they out of stock?

That's a good indication that there is an update in the works. Hopefully an improvement. =^..^=

Play with the fusing temp. Go down 5 deg if it gets worse go up by 5 deg from default value. But i agree on the after market stuff.

I am still waiting on the fuser unit, due to a back order, I was told it will be in at the end of the week. I have also switched the customer over to OEM toners, and I will tweak the fuser temp. a few degrees, I suppose we will see what happens within the next 80k or so, thanks everybody for all the info. I am still curious as to why there is a back order on these fusers, especially, if they are engineered to go 600k?

We had to order a replacement Main PWB for a color machine which was still under warranty.

We had to wait on the part caused by a delay of the striking dock workers union!

Hopefully you'll get your part SOON!

Kyocera has come out with firmware updates to resolve this issue, I have installed the firmware as well as a new fuser unit about a month ago, and all seems to be working great.
