Ricoh 2045 Error code 322

I have a machine that is giving me a 322 laser code (1st laser synchronizationerror). Can i clean the laser unit? Replace the laser synchronization board, or replace the laser????Any thoughts ?

I've had quite a few b003/b004 and a few b079/b082 machines with this problem, & found none of ricohs suggestions helpful.

Although I resist tweeking a pot until all else has failed, I have had quite a bit of success (80% ro better) tweeking the pots on these up just a little bit (one incrrement, maybe 2).

We joke about smoke rolling off of the drums as the laser scorches the coating, but it hasn't happened yet.
