    MPC306 wont recognise network

    Hi everyone,

I have a new MPC306 which i'm trying to install on a customers network. However it doesn't seem to pick up anything from the network when its plugged in.
The network lights on machine are lit orange, and I cannot ping from or to the machine. Tried other cables etc. Iv also tried initialising network card with no luck.

    any help would be great.

    Thanks

Set the machine's IPv4 to Auto-obtain, and see if the device picks up an address. If not, the DHCP could be blocking unknown devices. If it picks one up, try pinging that address and use the hostname to print to.

Most likely, the current IP address it is using is being used by another device. Hostnames are more reliable, unless you get a DHCP reservation in place.

You probably have 802.1x authentication turned to Active. Change to Inactive.

It's in user tools >interface settings.

Thanks guys, we ended up returning the machine to our workshop. Typically the next day we had a look at it and it worked first time on our office network. I do find these machines to be quite temperamental. Had a few print control boards go bad on other machines as well.

              Hi
Check the IEEE 802 1X Authentication settings under:
              User tools
              System settings
              Interface Settings
              Page 2
IEEE 802 1x Authentication for ethernet should be INACTIVE

Had this before ...caused me a brain freeze...

              Hope it helps

Good tip in some cases , except he said it worked at his shop in the post immediately above yours; Although it would be thoughtful if he'd return to update if it was resolved at client's office

It could be that the customer network has their router turned OFF for DHCP devices ( banks and higher security clients do this ) You may need an assigned IP.

Always carry a laptop for exactly this.

In the future, save yourself a lot of trouble and confirm whether the issue is their network or the mfp (9 times out of 10 it will be the customers network). Use your laptop as a dhcp server and connect it directly to the mfp and see if it picks up an address from it. I've used this several times to prove to a customer that the problem was not with the mfp. I use opendhcp but there are other free apps available.

Exactly as said above always check printing from your laptop you can then immediately diagnose a network related issue. These 306 even have onboard wifi so which is also usful for print tests from your smart phone etc

I have used some of these free DHCP utilities as well; they work great.

I have also been known to carry a small SOHO wired router with me. I think I found one in a computer store for about $20.

Note that I said wired, not wireless. I wouldn't want to be accused of broadcasting WiFi in a customer's office, especially one who is tight on security.
