Don't want to excuse that guy but...
The idea to put such a high volume machine in the middle of school full of busy staff, obviously without key operator...now that scares me.
Been there a lot of times with a number of smaller machines, there is no joy at all, teaching teachers.

The newer generation machines like the KM 754e does real well in public environments in comparison to say a KM 751.
The old style high volume is a pain for an end user.
Whatever

Re: Repair Guy Uses Tons of Paper

Such waste is a shame, these days!
When i need to do a big test on a machine i always ask customer for a large printjob, so the paper is not wasted.
When there is no large printjob, I always test duplex, and put the printed paper back in the tray for again a new duplex run.
This i do so for at least 10 times.
So, 20 kopies are mad on 1 sheet of paper...
So, don't ask me further what i think of this "technician".
When he was working here, he should not do that again.
If he does, he would be fired.

Next time have him print out something you can use, forms, fliers etc etc.
He should ask and i wont print out 100 sheet test myself w/out asking accnt if there is something i could print or copy of theirs.
Teachers and rushed teachers make bad users and i dont know if this machine is run in a print room or
stand alone.
Maybe hire someone just to handle printing and loading paper and toner..

Is there a relation problem between you (or a teacher) and the printer company?
Perhaps one of your teachers family works in another printer company?
I have had this once: there was a person who made sabotage to our printers, over and over again!
Finally we have lost this (important) customer due to his sabotage.

Your job is te find out what is realy going on, without prejustice.
You always have to hear both stories, not?

My previous answer was one without thinking, emotional.
This is a technician website, your question is long way from the original intention of this webside.
Get off.

Sounds like the simplest solution, just ask him.

Agree...aside from whatever is wrong with the machine...this sounds like a communication issue. BOTH the tech AND the end user need to take a share of the responsibility. Ask your tech why he is needing to run that much paper. The tech should be asking for more details from the end user as to what is generating frequent calls. techs should ALWAYS interview their customers to get a good picture of the problems. and should ALWAYS explain what they are doing (or have done) to repair the and test the equipment. Basic troubleshooting procedure...

through the machine every single time (That is between 3500 and 5000 pieces of paper). Is this normal? The picture shows the amount of paper he ran through the machine last week.
but I can not believe it ... is it a joke? ... ah ah..ah .... if I did something like that from the client my boss would have kicked my ass ....
(and did well) ... it is not possible to try a mc you have to do all those prints .. and when he has finished trying it what he does? change all the consumables again? ... I thought I had seen them all, but this is really strong..LOL

It's not April 1st already is it?

5k sheets through a 45 cpm machine, that's 2 hours he's just standing around drinking the customers coffee.

Look out the Tech will be running off another 5k copies next Friday.
It would be cheaper in paper to just give him your phone number.

As the plot thickens, perhaps the tech loads up the 5000 sheet LCC, pushes the start button and slips into a closet, or out to his car for a nap. At least if the company tracks him his car is at the customers site.

You are right to question the amount of paper being used. It's too much. Definitely goes against Ricoh's green initiative. Early on the 8120s had a lot of issues but there have been many Tech Bulletins and Firmware updates to improve the reliability. If you are seeing your technician once a week then there is a problem. I would reach out to the company to have a team lead or manager involved to resolve any issues.

Yeah!, but that won't get the Tech her phone number though...
