The black and color are interchangeable but the black does have a larger lube bar and will last longer. And the 03 and 04 are interchangeable as well. The 04 are typically cheaper. That said they are interchangeable on the 30 ppm and up. The 20 and 25 are unique, although interchangeable among themselves..

And the dev units are unique between 03 and 04 whether 20ppm or 30 and up.

Ok, here is an update. I used a c6004 pcu and installed it into a c6003. All was well. However, when I tried to install a pcu from a c6003 into a c6004, it will not fit.

        This makes no sense.

Can you elaborate as to why it would not fit?

I don't understand how you did it?....the 6003 pcu have differente gap in the plastic frame to coupling the developer unit of 6004, (dont coupling with pcu), and the developer unit of 6003 connector have 9 wire vs the 6004 that instead have 6 wire.

to make matters worse, not even the loose parts are the same, the OPC of 6003 is a few millimeters longer than the 6004 and not match in 6003 pcu frame

The '03 color pcu mounted up with the '04 development unit just fine. However, it will not slide into the machine fully. It stops about 10mm out. It seems there is something on the pcu frame itself that is blocking full insertion. So I took it apart again and remated back to the dev unit and tried it again- no joy. I then took out another color from the '04 and compared the 2 pcu's. There are slight differences in the design, but I still cant see exactly where the malfunction is occurring. Weird. I went ahead and ordered an '04 color pcu.

No moral to this sorry. I work for a small company, and sometimes the engineer part of the job title comes into play to make things happen.

I rebuilt and reinstalled the original pcu into the machine. It fit in fine, all is pretty much good now. Thanks for the replies.

                    Re: c6003, c6004 pcu

I just tried to put a D239-2245 Black PCU for MPC6004 in place of a D242-2245 Color PCU in the cyan slot and the unit stopped about a half inch from full insertion. Fitted the D242-2245 color pcu and it worked well. I cannot see what is getting hit either but I thought someone on this forum said the black pcu for the C6004 slides right in color slots but the Don't.

You CANNOT fit a black D2392245 PCU for a 04/03 colour PCU ,the gearing is different and will take out the drive unit .

I Remember that Little White Gear of the colore pcu, Is a bit out of axis resper a black Gear of BK pcu, if you look boot pcu's from rear you can notate this particularity , infact, year ago, my collegue in a 3003, force the bk pcu, in colore slot, and After One mouth, the Gear are completely worn....and the pcu leak more toner around the frame, because the built in clean unit dont turn
