would like an opinion on this, had sc202, the screen is fine, so i think no issue with BICU, checked earthing contacts to duplex unit, all's well, PSU seems fine also, after removing and cleaning polygon motor, it came to ready and i copied about 10 pages and then the error occurred again, convinced its the motor, but i have a dilemma, the primary and secondary motor part numbers have been discontinued, which leaves me the option of ordering a very expensive laser unit, am i overlooking something of is it definitely the motor ?

Re: Ricoh MP C4500 SC202
I have not mucked around on that model but if i was you i would see if you can part out a mp3300 or mpc3500 laser unit and see if motor can connect and fit.
Many years ago i use to take apart panafax FAX laser motors and clean the pivot point where the laser spins on its axis..
I would not 200 to 300 on a maybe that will fix it, if it was me..Comment

Re: Ricoh MP C4500 SC202
Wow..for a second there I thought this was a 10 year old thread.
A quick look at Google would have lead you back here anyway....it's an old machine with a common fault.
As Hadster said...make sure you swap out the BICU and the polygon mirror motor at the same time.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP C4500 SC202
I'd try the motor first, then the BICU if need be. If the BICU is fried it will not hurt the motor. Some BICU's can be fixed if you can find out what got fried. We used to call Hytec, sometimes they can tell you what component to check and replace.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP C4500 SC202
That was only if you had a blank display but could still see the SC 202 by shining a flashlight at an angle across the screen or by going into WIM. If the display is not blank, the BICU does not need to be replaced. If the display is blank and you do not replace both, it could blow the one you replaced.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP C4500 SC202
As other colleagues have commented, I also recommend the same thing, do not miss too much time and disconnect the device completely from the electric power supply. To avoid on, by the user accidentally, they may aggravate this problem.
Replace the Polygonal Motor, before the BICU is damaged, but if the screen darkens (even a little), you must replace both parts simultaneously or the new part you place will be damaged.
We had this situation a few years ago with the "MP C5000-C4000" series, which we still had in maintenance."ALL WILL BE WELL" The battle cry that most inspires me to follow, from the DC's Comic character that I admire the most. And I feel satisfied with being better every day, and with using Gnu-Linux as my usual Operating System.Apologies for my English, it's not my mother tongue and I'm helping the translator.Comment

Re: Ricoh MP C4500 SC202
this was picked out as an alternative, so was ordered, but when i tried it it didn't fit, the connector was different, the ones in the manual ended 0318 and 0286.
I believe the issue with BICU takes out the back light of the LCD screen, I have had this on several occasions in the past, I don't have that here, the screen is fine and as i mentioned, it did come to ready and briefly work, before sc202 reoccurred
thanks for all your help, i think i can get my hands on second hand laser unitComment
