Re: Ricoh Pro C5100S and Fiery E42B Connection Issue

That was my original hope that a simple mistake was made and it would be an easy fix. But since at one point there was some connection between the two and there isn't any now makes me think there's some sort of degradation in the network card. Can you tell me how to bypass the server for now so I can get my customer up and running until I can get a new network card?

Network cards usually don't fail , would start with replacing the network cable from the wall to the fiery first.

More information the better since you could ping and web in each sounded like fiery and copier out of sync that is a common problem with all copiers with fiery's.

They happen to have a different printer going to a port in the wall so I'm attempting borrowing that cable and port. I've unplugged everything and waiting for a few to plug back in.

I would at least set up a static IP on the copier in the same range as the Fiery to confirm they cannot communicate, it would rule out either device.

As for removing the Fiery from the picture, someone please correct me as I haven't worked on too too many of them but I think it just involves plugging a non-crossover network cable into the other RJ45 port (rightmost) on the copier and changing the settings on the copier to match their network (or keep it DHCP and see if it picks anything up, might be a good test).

At that point if it does work with DHCP and picks up an address I would probably rebuild the Fiery.

I've tried everything you suggested with no luck. I've been on the phone with some other techs besides your advice and lots of ideas but nothing concrete. I'll remove the back tomorrow to see if there's some thing that doesn't look right or maybe it's a software issue.

If you can try to bring another tech sometimes two heads are better than one.

Here's the thing that's odd IP Address for Server is 192.168.1.140
Copier is set to auto obtain but the IP address comes up 169.254.139.173 with Subnet mask 255.255.0.0 which I believe isn't correct.
On the older Fiery's the IP addresses would be the same and subnet would be 255.255.255.0, which at one point this one was.

same issue with ricoh mpc300, it pings via CMD, also prints via USB ok, but cant connect via network, when auto obtain, it shows 169.254.137.1 also mask 255.255.0.0. Any lead to this will be highly appreciated

I keep thinking it's something simple, like one incorrect setting that I'm missing. And your advice is exactly what I was thinking, try again in the morning. I appreciate all the help.

If you figure this out please let me know, sounds exactly like my issue just different equipment.

First, it's never the network board, at least I've never seen one fail.

Can you access the Fiery from the Pro C5100s control panel?

                      Gigabit.pdf

Crossover must be connected to item 3 in the attachment.

Everything is hooked up correctly. No, can't access the Fiery from C5100S control panel. The thing that keeps haunting me is there was a point I could ping back and forth between the two and even see the 5100 through Web Image Monitor but now can't do either.

Haven't been able to get back to this machine, hoping I can get in on Saturday. I'll give that a try, hopefully install software is on the computer.

Fiery system software should be 4 CDs that came with the Fiery. Its basically reinstalling a windows image. Should be system software discs 1-3 and then a User Software disc. Although I don't think you are at that point yet. It sounds like a connection/network config issue. I would try new cables first, check for link lights. Verify that wall port is active, etc.

Removing the fiery requires two service mode changes on the Ricoh, one to re enable the native print app and the other to turn off it using an external controller (fiery).

Thanks for all the great info.
Checked the hard drive today. 15% fragmented and partition drive 28% frsgmented. Which to me makes sense since like I said at one point there was some communication between the fiery and 5100 but now there's zero. I know all the cables are good because I've tried multiple cables from working devices and at least one wall port that I'm certain works. It looks like the install software is on the tower and once it's done defragmenting, had to leave before it finished, going to reinstall software and see what happens.
