Read these threads and don't feel alone in this.

Personally I think it should be an ongoing thread in "Rants and Raves"

Relax! This firmware injection won't hurt...but it will take 45 minutes.

Help is on the way - according to one of the trainers at Ricoh University there is a new toner/developer formula being released soon. We have known for a long time that using the B079 developer and toner solves the problems with this machine, but the engineers in japan have been too arrogant to listen.

I have no Idea when (supposedly in April) the new toner is actually going to hit the market, or if the rumor is even true, so my advice is simple: If you can control the supplies your customer receives then switch them to the B079 stuff, adjust the fuser temp if necessary, then go have a beer - you've earned it.

Yes it is true that the toner is to be modified

I haven't heard of new toner/dev but Ricoh just posted a bulletin with an updated mag roller that toner wont adhere to. But you can't order just the mag roller, you have to order the whole dev unit. These should be freebies to dealers.

I adjust the doctor blade heighth to a tight .35MM and the buildup on the mag roller takes longer to buildup.
Even new DV units are uneven and loose.
I have seen .7MM gaps on new machines.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Nope - I posted that back in Feb '09. The new toner made it run a little better, just as the coated mag roller did, but still nowhere near 300k. We were getting 15-30K with no mods, now getting 40-80k with all the mods, new toner, and whatever else we can come up with in the field. However bad they run now is what you're stuck with.

Japan put out a bulletin saying this problem affects 0.7% of all the machines in the field - I'm callin' BullShit on that one! It affects EVERY machine in my territory, as well as every machine for every tech I've swapped solutions with. That alone has to account for much more than 0.7% of the machines worldwide, and I've been down on my luck lately, but I can't be that big of a jinx that its only that bad for people I know.

Now I hear they're relasing the new MP4001 with the same damn toner!

...for annother 40k. Bottom line - whatever money Ricoh thinks they're saving with this new green, easy to manufacture, low fusing temp toner is being eaten up by all the extra service calls and developer changes. And that doesn't count how badly they've damaged their reptuation by not fixing an EXTREMELY obvious problem, and now releasing 2 more machines with the same junk toner. Maybe I should give them the benefit of the doubt: I guess its possible they've done something to make it work in the MP4001, but nothing they've done so far has worked.
