    Ricoh MP C3003 makes thumping sound

    I have a MP C3003 that makes a thumping sound when running. It jams mostly before the fuser and sometimes after the fuser. When I cheated the right-side door and turned it on, I could feel the thumping on the fuser unit. Unless someone tells me otherwise, I think the problem is in the fuser unit. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    In our office we have a MP C4503 and a MP C5503. Is that the same fuser unit? I think they are different, but my boss thinks they are the same. Also, I see there are rebuild kit available for theses fuser units. Are those rebuild kit worth my time and money?

    Thanks in advance for any insight and help that is given.

    Common issue! The gears in the fusing unit get chewed up (one more than the others), and cause jamming, or eventually just won't turn.
    P/N: AB012120 - is the gear that usually gets chewed up.

    Fusing units for the C4503 and C5503 have a different belt unit in them than the C3003.
    C3003 = D1464041 - fusing belt unit
    C4503/5503 = D1504041 - fusing belt unit

    As far as the rebuild kits....we normally just have to replace the sleeve assembly, every now and then a press roller, and that gear. So I would say No, not worth it.

      As above common problem gears you can swap the base plate on the mpc4503 fuser to fit the mpc3003 or remove pin from machine different part number but I use the mpc4503 sleeve in all metis 03 series machine

        common problem on that type of fuser design, sometimes very loud, tac-tac-tac-tac-LOL, you can solve it, without disassembling , through the paper entry and output slot, insert with a syringe, with a rubber tube (I cut and use the small advanced black tubes of the old toner pump)

        some grease or silicone oil in the coupling ball bearing-pressure roller, obviously also carried with you the two gears that frhonB suggested...because they could be two distinct problems
