Unless I missed it, he's not told us what the models are, but I'm just assuming that they're different/ newer units

Production firmware for this model doesn't support anything beyond SMB1. Not sure if there was a custom firmware module for this model, but generally only the xxx2 series machines were upgraded for SMB2/3 support. The only machine from the same era I've seen updated for SMB2/3 was the MP 171.

There is custom firmware for this model in the US to fix this problem, but I don't know if there is custom firmware for this techs location(Spain)

Custom firmware developed for the US market will work in machine in Europe. It is just that Ricoh-EU won't tell you about them. If you are an EU tech, you have to get them from a North America tech.

I guess not, afaik Ricoh Europe doesn't release them. A few years ago I was tempted to ask around for firmware in order to restore SMB function for many units out in the field. Finally I didn't asked because that would have undermined the work of our sales people^^

Customer can always enable old SMB versions on their end if they prefer to stick with a decade years old MFP...

Open telnet, check SMB client auth level on both machines.
Make sure the setting is the same as the working machine.
                Aye! Cut the crap

It seems that you are trying to upgrade/connect on the windows network. All networks are not same as they are managed by the administrator and they can set policies depending upon their company's standard requirement and hence the network firewall does not allow the device to connect unless the policies are changed. Sometimes, O.S upgrades are also the enhanced with firewall security with similar results.
