It is mostly the same, except the network by default is Public, and will restrict SMB.

Make sure you create a local standard user account, either with Settings > Accounts, or lusrmgr.msc.

Create the shared folder the usual way, and give that account either Read and Write, or Full Control, permissions.

Set the Network to Private, instead of Public, via: Right click network icon > Network and Internet Settings > Properties > Private network.

Before create local standard user acc. Make sure u have turn on SMB features for windows 11. Windows 11 default setting SMB 1.0 /CIFS server still not active. Just add this features.

And the next time a Microsoft security update installs, usually at least once a week, SMB v1 will be turned back off. If the scan device supports SMB v2/3, SMB v1 support on the computer is not needed.

I'll start by saying that I'm not a super expert in systems, but I've noticed that on some PCs for some strange reason, sometimes, you have to create a rule in the Windows integrated firewall to allow the MC to access the folder, or with an IP, or with a port, or with a protocol

I have found that more often than not, it is a matter of removing a rule that got placed there accidentally by a user not knowing what can happen in certain instances. Example, scans to folder for the first time with the security suite installed then goes to get coffee before returning to desk. Security does not get an answer to the "Allow or Block" popup within its allowed time so it automatically blocks the port. McAfee is probably the worst offender.

There is no reason in 2024 to add SMB 1 support back into Windows 11. If you or your clients have equipment that doesn't support modern file sharing it's time to upgrade.
