    SC 670-02 Ricoh C4504

    Hi Experts,

We have three MFPs all with the same problem SC-670-02. It occured all of a sudden.

According to service manual the faulty parts could be

    * BICU
    *IPU
    *Control Board
    *DC Power Supply

I am seeking help to fix this error code without replacing the boards.

Can anyone suggest how to fix this problem

    Many thanks and much appreciated

I agree, these controllers are sensitive to electrical and network fluctuations, sometimes disassembling the card and reassembling it worked.

One of the toners can also cause this code.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

          SC670-02
D Engine is down when machine starts up (SC reboot can not be performed) (* See “When SC670 Is Displayed” below)
Machine-down was detected after the /ENGRDY signal was not asserted
The engine board was reset at an unexpected time
Check the connection between the engine board and the controller board.
          If⦁ ⦁ it⦁ ⦁ is⦁ ⦁ always⦁ ⦁ reproduced,⦁ ⦁ replace⦁ ⦁ the⦁ ⦁ engine⦁ ⦁ board.⦁ ⦁ If⦁ ⦁ the⦁ ⦁ problem persists, consider replacing the controller board or other boards between them.
          If⦁ ⦁ reproducibility⦁ ⦁ is⦁ ⦁ low,⦁ ⦁ multiple⦁ ⦁ causes⦁ ⦁ are⦁ ⦁ to⦁ ⦁ be⦁ ⦁ considered,⦁ ⦁ such⦁ ⦁ as software, engine board, controller board, and PSU
Check the status of ID chip in each toner cartridge (clean or correct the position).

Firmware, I didn't update because It's not available. I don't have the firmware. I have checked on ricoh official site but it's online upgradation. It's not possible in such case with the error code. If anyone can share I will surely give it a try. That will be much helpful.

Surge protector, Unfortunately there was no protection installed at customer premises. I guess that will be the reason.

All of the connectors have been reseated but error is still there......

We do see the SC670 caused by faulty toner bottle or contaminated chips.

Try this, power down the machine then clean all bottle chips & re-fit the toners one at a time when the machine asks.

We can supply the latest firmware if you wanted to try updating this may also resolve the error.

Since all SC670 are engine startup errors, try powering up with the doors open. That should bypass engine startup and possibly allow you to get into service mode. You won't be able to print anything but might be able to export logging data to a n SD card with SP 5992-004.

Its not letting me enter SP mode. I dont why. According to Book this error is related to CPU, engine failure to boot but the faulty parts it suggests changing BICU first. The CPU is on the control board why is it asking to change BICU first.

Is there any possibility to fix this?

I believe the BICU is the engine.

Can you please share the firmware so I can try? Upgrading the firmware can resolve the problem.

Thanks for sharing the tech bulletin. I have checked and cleaned the toner Chips. There were already clean and in the correct position. After restarting twice the error code is still same.
