Ricoh MPC4504ex scan to folder problem

I have 2 Ricoh MPC4504ex machines doing this problem. When you scan to folder, there is a 1/8 inch void down the center of the scan. Copies from glass and doc are perfect. Print jobs are perfect. If I scan to usb on the keyboard they are perfect. I have one of the machines in the shop. It can't be a computer problem because the problem occurs at 3 different locations. I contacted Ricoh and they suggested the IPU. I ordered one, changed it ....same problem. Firmware is updated. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Are you trying to do scan to folder with OCR turned on? That introduces a portion of the circuitry and memory/HDD that is not used by any other function.

What is OCR? These machines were working in the field before the problem occurred. How could this turn on ?

OCR ‘Optical Character Recognition’ is an option on a SD card. This may be installed in the upper SD slot of the controller.

does it do this in both glass and rdf scanning?
          - try opening the pdf file with another program, generally acrobat works better
          - I would also try with twain to see if it does the same thing
          - try changing the compression method from the various settings
is it possible to see a photo of the original and the scan in comparison? maybe highlight the defect with a pen

Just to be more thorough, I would do this on an off-network laptop , then simply, cleaning the scanner, calibrating and changing the original scan type setting to ''auto''.
