    SR5050 finisher on Pro c7100 SC720-75 error

Removed drag unit and found a chewed up gear that probably doesn't have anything to do with the code as the foam gathering rollers were not turning at that point. Replaced the gear and code remains. Replaced the drag roller home sensor and drag motor, no difference. Have reseated connectors, etc back to the circuit pwa. Doesn't seem to have any binding.

Open/close finisher door first time, gathering rollers turn, jam code 122 drag motor doesn't turn
open/close finisher door second time, gathering rollers turn SC720-75 drag motor doesn't turn
open/close finisher door 3rd time, gathering rollers don't turn, still has SC720-75, but the drag motor cycles twice.

Mother Ricoh says to replace drag assy. Boss doesn't want to, says keep digging, customer is getting pissed.

Any advice other than dynamite is appreciated. I think possible bad board. Trouble is this will be an expensive repair that would be best troubleshot with another finisher for parts donor, unfortunately we do not have a donor.

Can not enter finisher diagnostics when finisher is in error state. Customer can not use 7100 because it shows constant jam.

More than likely it is a bad motor or home position sensor. Two questions to ask your boss:
    1. How much will the parts cost
    2. How many non billable hours does he expect you to put in before he oks the parts

One thing to check is if there is anything foreign material wise the might be interfering with the movement or the home position sensor. I have sen small scraps of paper get in photointeruptor type sensors and and cause the same symptoms, at a junior high school office, a student had pushed scraps of paper into and opening above the gathering assembly.

Ciao, I found this, try to take a look, it is in Italian, but you can understand it anyway...maybe after a careful analysis, you can figure out what exactly bent / deformed, and fix it yourself

Had help from another tech today. We got it figured out. The original issue was a bad gear and bad drag motor. Got those 2 replaced and problem should have been resolved. However Mother Ricoh uses same connectors with same plugs side by side for the stepper motors. Reversed the two connectors and it was working normally again. Note to self, if ever having to replace drag assembly again, mark which plug goes to which connector. It is odd that switching the connectors threw the same error code though, one would think it would be for the other motor, not the bad motor.

it is rare, but it could happen, that ricoh uses two identical connectors, connectable in two different devices, with the same wiring length, without one not being doubted during the replacement of the part... in case this can happen, it is obvious that "inconsistent" error codes can be generated... (door switches are an example).... so you can say that you have solved?
