Ricoh MP C4503 Nic Port damaged and USB to RJ45 not working

Hello, the customer moved the machine without unplugging the ethernet cord and damaged the NIC port.
When trying to use a USB 3.0 to RJ45 gigabit adapter he is getting a System Message saying "Incompatible USB Device has been detected Check the USB device".
Does anyone have a solution we can try?
Taking the board out and trying to solder in a new NIC Port might not work out so well from what I have found.

the usb ports on the controller are for optional accessories to be attached to the machine and cant be used in the manner described. the same message will appear if say a USB stick or cell phone charger is plugged into those ports(has happened to me more times than i'd like to admit).

the likely hood of properly soldering a new nic port is very low as to not even bothering to attempt.

you need a new or used controller board and swap the nv ram from the old board to the replacement. just make sure it is for your specific speed of machine. c4503 is different from c5503/c3503

Cost wise you might be able to find a "parts machine" for less than the controller PCB

try searching in your area, maybe there is an official Ricoh card repair center nearby
the same thing happened to us a couple of years ago, we took it to one of these and they replaced it and resoldered a new network connector on the controller in a couple of days, at a cost of 100-150 euros and I remember correctly

Here in the US there was an official board repair facility that Ricoh-USA used before I retired in 2017.

I tried to solder a NIC port once but didn't succeed - guess due to the many layers of the PCB it can be tricky.

A USB printerver might be a budget solution but I'm not shure if the MPC4503 has a USB-B port or if you need to find an expansion card.
AFAIK the USB-A connectors won't support printing and are used for other options like card readers and stuff.

You could try getting into Super Service Mode:
Check SP 5844-100 to zero and reboot machine

                Thanks

I think you can print to the D shaped usb port just above the NIC port. Just connect a usb cable from the computer to the D shaped port. Then you will have to change the port in the print driver.

May also have to changer SP 5985-002. Might be able to use his USB 3.0 to RJ45 gigabit adapter for printing only, no SMB or FTP scan to folder. TWAIN scanning is available on ether of the 2 USB-A slots. Scan to memory device can be enabled. Just make the SP settin USB gs in the installation instructions for the USB-SD card option. You can then either plug a USB drive into the port at the back from of the C4503 or use a USB extension cable to bring the connection to the front. A USB to SD card can be added if they want to use an SD Card.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
The customer is deciding on a board repair or replacement.
They do want the SMB scanning so the USB solution would not be ideal, but might have to be considered.
Question: I can get a hold of a MP C6004 controller Board and am wondering if that will work in the MP C4504ex?
Same machine except for the speed from what I can find.
I know that NVRAM would have to be swapped in.

Is it that you have a 6004 board in stock or do you have a 6004 parts machine? Check the Parts Catalog. if the part number is the same for both you are OK. If not you may have a huge problem. With some models the speed of the machine is often identified to the engine by the serial number. If that is the case you need a valid 6004 serial number. With other models you may also need to replace at least one other board, usually the BICU.

maybe yes, once out of desperation I transformed an mpc3004 into an mpc3004ex, because I only had that controller in the lab.
and recently I transformed an mp2555 into a 3555 with some changes to the sp for the nomenclature and other details, I think that if you already have the parts it's worth trying, if you have to buy them it's not worth the risk
it's the controller that makes "EX"

Another option would be to fit the optional wifi kit. IEEE 802.11 a/g/n Interface Unit, Type M2. EPD 416572

There were expensive when new but most likely you could pick them up cheap now.

Thanks again all. The customer chose the board repair option. So I am having that done today and will let you all know if that works. The wireless option suggestion is my backup plan.
