Ricoh MP C4504ex with SR3130 Finisher Paper Misfeed R1-R2

Have this mysterious jam error on this SR3130. I took the top panels off and looked around. There is no paper inside. Has anyone seen this and have a fix? Maybe the optical sensor went bad? Happens on power-up and so I can't do anything like find exactly where it is jamming. Machine has under 100K total on it.

R1-R2 is only there to tell the user where to look for jammed paper. The J001 is what you as a service tech needs to be concerned about. J001 by description is a jam found at power on. It can also be a flaky door switch. Copier thinks the door has been opened and closed. Paper is still in the paper path, I.E. J001. If the paper is in the process of existing and only the trail edge is still on the exit sensor the paper exists before the motor has time to stop, ergo no jam found. Usual culprit is one of the micro push buttons.

Thanks Slim, I should have mentioned the machine prints fine without the Finisher installed. The customer removed it and tried to resolve it himself before I got the call.

You've got to get into service mode, go to I/O mode to test the sensors.

hard to tell from the picture but it looks like the output tray is in the upper position

check your output tray. there are 2 black arms that normally sit on top of the paper in the output bin. the lift table is probably sitting on top of the arms. you may need to rotate the lift table cam so you can reinstall the output table at a lower position.

most likely happened when the machine was moved. i believe its finisher free run 3 will lower the plate before you turn the machine off to move it.

try to check the jam code in sp, R1 and R2 it's user stuff...it doesn't say much

ah, I missed the image, if the sensor test is ok, it could be, as you say, some switches that don't reset, or even some wires in the wiring pinched, it could happen that unit is very compact, and there's a mess of stuff inside

Probably the output tray rest phase mentioned by Leoculus needs to be reset, or try starting the machine with the finisher door open, take a piece of paper or something else that can fit into the switch hole so that it performs the initial procedure and in the meantime observe all the movements of the mechanisms.
