[Misc] Ricoh MP C2503 won't connect to the network

    Hi everyone,

A Ricoh printer, model MP C2503, won't connect to the network after a new router/modem was installed by a new ISP. The printer is connected via a cable through a power line. I have tried the following the remedy the issue without success:
    • Assign a new IP (both DHCP and static), gateway, DNS and subnet to adhere to the new network
    • Assigned a static IP outside DHCP range
    • Disabled DHCP on the router and assigned static IP's to 2 computers and the printer. The computers can ping each other but none can ping the printer. On the printer itself every ping except for its loopback 127.0.0.1 fails.
    • DNS always fails to resolve (using gateway and 8.8.8.8)
    • I've attempted a memory clear through Service Mode but it didn't fix the issue
The cable attached to the printer works. I confirmed this by plugging it into another laptop, disabling WiFi and pinging other devices and accessing the internet. Using the exact same configuration I got from ipconfig on the printer doesn't resolve the issue.

What could be the issue here?

    Thanks in advance.

Can you explain exactly what you mean by this? Is this one of those setups where they are sending data through the electrical wiring?

Did you try plugging the copier directly into the modem via a long cable. Did you try plugging into a different ethernet jack in the building? I always have a 50 and 100 foot cable in my car for testing in these situations.

if I understand correctly, you have a pair of those repeaters that are used to transmit data on the power line?
maybe they are misaligned with each other, you should search the web for the realignment procedure for that product, usually it is done by pressing buttons on both

I don't know much about those powerline adapters, but it sounds like 'something' is up with them as suggested.
Swap in a wireless range extender instead, and move on.

Have you tried unplugging the CAT5 cable from the C2503 and connecting it to your laptop? If it doesn't connect the problem belongs to whomever maintains their network and not you unless you are the person that maintains the network. In that case stop farting around with the C2503 and start troubleshooting the physical network.

Well, something similar happened to me recently. The previous IP address was tied to the Mac, and when I connected to the new device, it wouldn't let me do anything except scan. A different IP address was assigned to it, the corresponding network changes were made, and that was it.

I had one years ago where we installed a new Ricoh color MFP at a water agency office using the IP address provided by their new IT person, the county used to provide IT support . The next morning they could neither print nor scan. Upon getting there I noticed it was displaying an address conflict with the MAC of the conflicting device. The IT person had no listing in his notes for that MAC address but told me to try the next IP. Next morning the same thing. The third morning with the same problem I decided to do some network tracing with the ARP command. What I found was the MAC belonged to a three port VPN router and the three ports were the three IP addresses I had been given.

As others have said the simplest way to check the Rioch doesn't have any connectivity issues is to hook a laptop up the device directly via a LAN cable.

Set the laptop on the same range as the copier for example laptop 192.168.0.1 - MP C2503 192.168.0.10

If you sill can't connect check this setting is set to inactive.

                  The issue has been resolved.

I ran a cable straight to the modem and discovered they have their old modem still up and running among other anomalies. Optimizing their network, replacing the UTP cables on both ends of the powerline adapters and rebooting both the router/modem/switch (all in one) & the printer and reconfiguring the interface settings is what solved the problem in the end.

I’m not the maintainer of their network, no one is after some follow-up questions, but some basic troubleshooting on the network would’ve resolved this issue sooner. Alas, lesson learned.

                  Thanks everyone
