    Ricoh machines toner is undetectable

    Hi Ricoh Experts,

Thanks once again for sharing your knowledge, experiences, useful tips and suggestions.

I am experiencing a problem in ricoh machines where the toners are brand new, full, clean chip contacts but still machine shows question mark and undetectable. I have searched for the previous threads for the same issue but could not find conclusive answer.

The toners I am using are compatible. NON OEM,NON GENUINE. The problem is not that non oem toners toners are being used. These ricoh machines behave same for the ricoh genuine toners. In one machine non genuine toners are installed only one toner is undetectable while in another machine genuine toner is undetectable. So its not about original and compatible toners.

The compatible toner which does not work in one machine if install in other machine it works. Why it works in some machines and doesnt in others?

I want to understand how machine detects , reads the chip? Reason is if a toner is 60 percent remaining it shows the same value in other machine if interchange.

Please share your valuable opinions about this. I really and desperately want a permanent fix tothis toner undetectable problem.

    Many thanks in advance

The machine read it from the chip. Depend on the model. Older model, MPC5502 and below, use RFID to read the chip. And MPC5503 and above, use contact to read it.
The problem with compatible toner, will leak and cover the chip. If newer model, you gonna have to clean the chip and the contact point too.

i have encountered machines where a defective ID chip has corrupted the memory address where the value for the current toner bottle is stored. It will show a value that is the maximum binary value for the register plus 1. That converts to the 2s complement of -1. Depending on the machine until that memory register is cleared it will propagate to the next bottle.

So in that case ID chip is defective. ID chip means the small board with pins inside the hopper unit that reads the toner chip ? And how will the machine clear the memory? If the chip has been corrupted

yes, look, it's always a good idea to have some spare chips for the various cartridges and colors, you don't want to throw away a new or half-used cartridge for a 3 euro chip, do you?
try asking your trusted supplier if he can get them for you

If the chip is corrupted then it should not work with any machine but many times I experienced that the toner is not working in one machine it started working, detecting, readable showing full level if installed in other machine. So in that case the chip is not faulty.

If the machine is faulty, bad chip sensor than it will not accept any toner whether genuine or compatible but it accepts compatible and some are undetecable even original.

            The conclusion is still pending......

If it works with another cartridge, and not with that one, but it is read on other machines, maybe they have paired the wrong chip in the factory

This is certainly helpful, thanks, but I don't see the connection to the current topic...
