MPC3503 - Possible to Clone HDD to SSD?

I have an old MP C3503 which has been on the fritz and seems to stop responding to network print jobs after a certain amount of time until the unit is restarted.

It got me thinking that the HDD is probably pretty old by now, and I was wondering if it's possible to clone the contents to an SSD before it dies on me. Has anyone done this before?r

Yes that is possible. However the best way is to simply back up your address book, replace the HDD then restore the address book. Must easier.

But for slow printing, I would first start by updating the Ricoh firmware & update the printer driver(s) & check the driver port is IP not WSD.

Not slow printing, but the printer just seems to stop responding to network requests. The IP is correct on the control panel, and the machine seems otherwise responsive (can make copies, etc.), but any time I print it just times out on the host. Restarting the printer fixes it every time.

I have seen what you are describing in the past. When the unit is restarted does everything sent while it was not responding spool out and then after setting for a short period of time it goes non responding again? If so the network switch it is connected to is dying. When I encountered it, the customer had 2 C2551s. They swapped them. The problem stayed with the location and not the machine. They replaced a 5 year old 24 port switch and no more problem.

Interesting... I'm certain that the switch in this case is fine, it's a brand new UniFi USW Pro Max 16 PoE switch. If it were a network configuration or topology issue, then I wouldn't be able to print at all, so I'm pretty sure the network is not to blame.

I think it may have something to do with when the printer switches into energy saving mode, since it always works after the printer is restarted. When this disconnection happens, even the web GUI is inaccessible, even after waking it up from sleep with the moon button, and even though everything appears fine on the printer itself. I haven't tried scanning to a network destination when the printer is in this state though, so i think that will be next on my troubleshooting list, to see if it can make outbound connections.

Therein could be the problem. Many Ricoh models, have a problems with POE. It causes the network port to switch off and often fail requiring replacement of the controller. https://www.copytechnet.com/forum/te...net-disclaimer

Makes sense if you are using a passive PoE injector (e.g. something that's non-compliant with 802.3af/at), but the PoE protocol itself requires negotiation and won't apply a large voltage across the TX/RX pairs if it doesn't detect a PoE compatible device on the other end.

That said, I can probably toss an unmanaged switch between the two devices so that it's guaranteed not to have a PoE input and see if that helps.

Ok turns out that the switch I've got it plugged in to is not even a PoE switch (I have both versions of the USW Pro Max 16 and forgot which was where), so it's definitely not a PoE issue.

Try a cross-cable and a laptop if that works. You can also try using the SP801-NIC to reset the LAN controller's hardware.
Just for feedback, this happened to me in the past on an MP3353, and strangely enough, the problem was the memory module, but that doesn't mean it's the same as yours.

All of our guys carry around a POE tester for this very reason. I think they were about $12 each.
