C2503 or C2504? There was a bulletin for the C2503 about a redesign of the paper tray. It was because it would intermittently cease to read the tray in the machine. Maybe that would cause a misfeed?I would try another paper tray.

Maybe you need to sell yourself a firmware update.

Visit with a fresh unopened package of paper and and try swapping trays, if possible.
Please start you post with brand, model, problem.

Clean the tray detection switch. If it's still the same, try a lift motor.

Are there any magnetic clutches involved in the paper feed drive? In case there are I'd take a look in that direction (and check out that tray hint of course).

I hope the firmware is..... aahh other people are faster than me

I have an MP C2504 in a solicitors office that will randomly not pick up paper so if I were to try one copy or a counter print it will display jam because it didn’t pick up the paper.

After clearing it may run 100 prints ok.

So I replaced the feed rollers (obviously) but the issue still happens.

I then fitted a new complete feed unit but the issue remains.

Even tried them on quality media without success.

                Any ideas

try as copyaction says, it has happened to me a few times too, the plastic of the drawer is too soft, a nice piece of plastic cut out and glued behind, where it goes to press the small drawer presence button, which while you are there I would replace .... if you don't have it, swap it with the one in drawer 2....becarefull, because the Wire connector its very bastard to pull and put...its extremely short and can drop behind the frame..use a robust tweeze to self help

Thanks for the tips, I tried a few of these ideas i'm due to go back next week to see how they are getting on with it. Issue seems very intermittent it will run 100 or so fine then next print job will jam maybe twice in a row then it will be OK.

Updated the firmware while I was there that most likely resolved the issue .............

I don't want to bring bad luck, but even I, when it happened to me, I updated the firmware, and the problem it seemed solved...but after three days the customer call back, for the same problem....the functionalty, is mainly influenced by how the tray was closed, that single time, if you open it and close it again, the magic may vanish after few hours or days.. LOL

Anyway for Deep test for this single problem, you can try to open and close, more..and more time the tray, and print some sheet each time

I thought the same thing when I remembered a similar case with a model 02.
It turned out that the clutch/motor that drives the paper collection unit remained activated, when the shaft should rotate freely.

When I hit him a few times with the handle of the screwdriver, he seemed to break free, but I change it for another and notice that he had some rust.

Maybe in this case, it is not so. But it may be something related.

Ah it's probably the same drive they use in the MPC3003 so this should not be the issue.

I had a lot of fun with clutches during the Aficio 350/1035/2035 periods......

i based on my calls on our metis fleet, it would seem that this is "top" of the problems, just behind sc672.. LOL

Does it happen with the "non budget" metis, too (MPC3003 and higher)?
I can't recall I've dealt with this before. I wasn't really a friend of this series when it came out but all in all I'm quite happy with it.

SC672 on the contrary, yes this happen to us every now and then, too
