    IM C4500 noisy fuser

    Howdy folks,

I got a few IM C4500 or 6000 singing the song of it's people. Its coming from the fuser. First machine was brand new, it was not very loud but you could just hear it. The other 3 have around 100k pages.

It took 400 pages before the machine in the video below started doing it. Im guessing its the film. The front frame side does have a bit of dust there and the film looks like it may have been rubbing.

    Any body else seen this?

I would be more inclined to say stepper motor for the fusing. Use Output tests to run the fusing/exit motor at different speeds and see if you can duplicate it that way.

It's the fuser. Tech sent me the unit. I put it in a brand new machine and ran 400 pages in SP modes. Made the noise. Put the new fuser in. No noise.

I can't make the fuser output check work on the IM C series. I followed the procedure in the manual taking the waste toner out etc. It won't turn on.

if its like a vibration or groaning noise i have seen this on 4 imc4500/6000, its the sleeve that causes this. i have been replacing with new fuser but the other day i replaced just the sleeve in one and that took care of noise.

We have been replacing the fuser too. I don't think there is going to be anything we can do but thought I'd post.

Rates are the shits on all these accounts we have these machines in and locked in for 5 years.

Sometimes I gently rub the surface of the pressure roller with very fine emery paper to remove that "gloss" which causes a slight friction and also a rubbing noise, be aware, however, that the fusing film assembly may be worn or unlubricated on the inside…

I saw this problem last Thursday on an IM C6000. The customer described the noise as "Tired and groaning". I replaced the fusing sleeve and pressure roller to resolve the issue.

Just had a IM C6000 do this. I replaced this fuser 2 months ago and it's howling at 52k. I think Ricoh has a manufacturing defect.

We are seeing the IMC fuser units fail before PM life.

It is still cheaper to replace the sleeve rather than the sleeve only.

                  Various issues usually poor fusing.

                  No word from Ricoh yet.

Rebuilding with a sleeve and pressure roller is still more cost effective than replacing the whole unit.

I just replaced a sleeve. Puked prematurely only had about 100k on it.

Yes, sorry that's what I meant. But engineers get lazy & replace the complete unit.

In Canada its $20 cheaper to replace the entire fusing unit vs a sleeve and pressure roller never mind the time of the lazy tech

And it's the same in the UK , cheaper for whole fuser-just takes up more space in the car!!!

The packing it comes with is stupid huge. Box in a box. We take the smaller box out and just put a sticker on with the part number.

The 5503 fuser was pretty quick to rebuild but the 6004 and IM C6000 fuser has more crap ontop you have to deal with. Im glad they made it a replacement unit vs rebuild.
