I was thinking the same. Is it on a surge protector? If so, it may be bad. If not, you may try one.Comment

Re: MPC5503 with recurring SC544-02
I have had bad grounds cause Lanier 1200 word processors to erase files on floppy disks. It was a portable building on a military base. The outlet grounds were tied to the building frame. Regional rep came up from LA with a Dranetz 3 port monitor. Hooked it up and started getting multiple hits a minute to include hot to ground and neutral to ground. Base engineers came out the next day, sunk a 12 foot ground rod into sandy soil, tied the building ground to the ground rod and the problem went away.Comment

Re: MPC5503 with recurring SC544-02
The thought crossed my mind, but that machine went in to replace a MPC6000 - and that's a beast of a machine and, in my opinion, much more sensitive to those kind of things.
I also thought "hey, maybe they're trying to use the MPC6000 at the same time, and that's a power hungry beast", but no - the customer has had the machine powered off for a while, since it's got no contract.
I went there today and replaced the PSU. Let's see how it goes.' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'

Re: MPC5503 with recurring SC544-02
that is only if it was designed for copiers. such as innovolt or etc... if it is a cheap you know what from the store then no..... not on a laser copier/printer. if you put a cheap surge protector on a laser machine. then you are just begging for issues. the cheap ones from the local store are not rated to handle the power load. just my 2 cents on that one...Comment

Re: MPC5503 with recurring SC544-02
The only things from the trouble shooting guide for SC544-02 that you haven't listed is the PSU and the BCU. Also check the wiring harness for bad/loose connections from the Non Contact thermistors and the thermopiles to the BCU and BCU to the PSU.Comment
