    MP C306 drum disassembly...

I have a Cyan drum from a C306 that's leaving a line on prints and copies.
I replaced the drum with a drum from a good unit (my personal unit) to confirm the problem was the Cyan drum unit, it was.

So the unit leaving the line...is it repairable? I can look down from the top side and see a blue line on the white foam roller, but no line on the drum.
Drum looks like a day 1 drum.

With the drums costing so much I'd love to try and fix this one.

    Thanks

As long as it is not a line due to damage to the cylinder or loading from clips, etc., you can disassemble the unit and clean. Sometimes it is toner that is up on the cleaning blade, which you will observe if you change it. Normally this happens when changing brands of toner....they worked with original and now generic that pollutes a lot and while it adapts, it spreads toner on the blade dirtying charge, charge cleaner, knife and more things.

Clean the drum with alcohol, rotate the drum backwards while cleaning. Then polish dry with a soft cloth this usually does the trick.

Usually no need to strip the unit down.

If the drum has a groove you could simply try a new cleaning blade

I agree with the others, it can be done, I think that most of the time the PCUs (generally) get dirty/clogged sooner than they wear out

We have quite a lot of these out in the field so I have had this thought myself.
For the bigger machines it is usually the charge roller getting dirty that causes lines to appear on the prints and in those cases you can relatively easy clean them with plain water. This works once or twice but the problem just comes back faster and faster, so it is temporary measure.
However whenever I've taken apart the PCU of the MP C30X series I've never gotten it to work.

Removing the drum itself you can see the charge roller and white cleaning brush, usually on the charge roller you'll have adhering that matches the lines on the printed page but even if you clean these the lines come back fast.
Removing the charge unit itself is also a bit more complicated than other PCUs which leads me to believe they never expected anyone to clean these.

I think the issue is that the white cleaning brush gets too damaged, so even if you clean the charge roller it'll just get dirty again from the brush. And the brush itself isn't possible to clean I think since just touching it causes it to break down.
Maybe I haven't given it enough tries or done it correctly but in my experience I've never really been able to clean them like other models, which sucks because changing a whole PCDU because of two degraded parts is irritating.

You can order the charge roller assembly complete - and the other bits, blade etc -in the IMC 300 Parts manual

I checked the part catalogue, because it seemed like a good idea, given the cost of the PCDU, but unfortunately I only found the charging roller and its cleaning roller... the other parts are not there
