[Misc] C3002 whining noise

Howdy guys,

Working with a Ricoh C3002. When it concludes printing it makes a loud and long whining noise. It sounds like if you dragged your hand across a widow slowly.

It only happens after printing has concluded.

Has anybody encountered this?

You have a bushing running dry somewhere. From my history with that model, I would say in the exit transport. Heat rising from the IH coil causes them to dry out. If it goes too long the bushing will seize and cause a jam.

Pull the exit unit out, easy enough if you are experienced on this old machine. The complete unit was available as a spare part.

You can run the fusing exit motor at various speeds with simulation SP 5804-31,32,33,35

31 Fast
32 Medium
33 Slow
35 Very Slow

Listen to see if the noise is present and if it is whether it comes from the fusing area or the exit section.

There is a section in the service manual on removing the exit unit Applying silicon oil to all the bushings should cure the problem.

Yep, run the motors in I/O mode to narrow down.

I could be wrong, but to me it seems like some noisy pcu, some vibrating blade, try printing a few color pages, with full colour (nice full ones), or take them out, and put a bit of yellow toner on them with a brush over the drum cylinders , and rotate them by hand a little forward and a little backward.

Does anybody have the procedures for applying silicone to the exit unit bushings? The service manual I have only explains how to remove the unit.

First thing is to remove the bushings and clean them and the shafts. If any shafts show excessive scoring, replace them. Reassemble and place a drop of silicon oil on each end of each shaft is ample but if you want to saturate the bushings, out them in a small metal container, cover them with silicon oil an heat them up. That opens the pores of the sintered bronze and allow it to absorb the oil.

Simmilar type of nosie can be generated by a worn out fusing unit (especially at low speeds right after a finished job) or as mentioned above by a PCU.
