I have a ricoh 1045 that is blowing up copies from front to rear. Can anyone help me get in service mode and fix it? Just picked up this machine with 86k. What do you guys think of this machine?

I think its an OK machine if you use OEM supplies and keep it CLEAN.
Print out an SMC list, just SPs will do, look for anything that has changed,(has an asterik).sigpic

sounds like you have a bad gear on the drum shaft, back of the machine behind the fly wheel, the inner hole of that gear is making the gear move out of place and it should be fixed to the shaft.
To troubleshoot: try doing 10 or more multi copies some should come out fine.sigpicWe can all Win, but at the end we all loose. Save the greyhoundComment

I was looking for the word "skew" and was surprised not to see it. I suspect that is exactly what you are looking at.
Skewed image (not square in the crossfeed direction), when copying off of the glass or using the DF70. The scanner may be warped downward in the front left corner, during transport or from customers leaning on it. Scanner support bracket in production April 2002. Preventatively, block up the scanner with a foam block during transport. Leave the DF off until final installation. Reform the left corner of the scanner upward for a square copy. The lead edge void may be used as a reference. See TSB 003.
I was around for the release of this machine, but never saw the external support bracket. In the field we used to call it the "Bear Hug". Wrap your arms around the scanner and give a good hearty lift at the left front corner, to square up the copy. Certain customers, I guess they were just really weak and wimpy, because they had to lay across the scanner whenever they stood at the copier. For these customers the "Bear Hug" was required nearly every visit. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

image is not skewed. Been in the copier business for a while now, this is just the first ricoh i have worked on. On the toshibas there is a code to reduce image size front to rear that is what I was checking for. I will see copier again tomorrow and will check some things you guys mentioned.Comment

If your losing 1/4 page something is hosed - its not going to be a software adjustment unless somebody really wants to mess with your head. Easy way to check is to print a full SMC report SP5990 - anything non-default will be marked with a "*", and I think that model also prints a page with all the non-defaults
You'll also have a list of the codes if you can make it out - some of them are useless unless you have the manual.
I used to work on analog Toshiba (Lanier branded) which were great machines. Unfortunately Toshiba was late to the market with their digital lineup (unless you count what lanier sold as a 6838d) and we were never really impressed with them. Neither were our customers. And I think the FC-22 was intended to drive people insane - of course I'll say the same for the MP400073 DE W5SSJComment

here is a copy of a seldrum test chart I made in the copier. Its the same from glass or doc feed. Running paper LT. If your familiar with this test chart there is some info missing from the top and bottom of the chart.

I can't tell from your scan whether the image is enlarged and runs right up to the edge of the page with no voids, or if the image is slightly enlarged with standard 2mm voids, or if the image is 100% with 10mm voids.
The second case would be just an adjustment of magnification (2909-1 or 2909-2). The last case is the easiest, just adjust the voids back down to 2mm (2101-1 through 2101-7).
In the first case, if both are out of wack I'd have to conclude that someone is indeed messing with your head. How could both get so far out of adjustment, unless it was on purpose? =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
