First of all 542 is a warmup error, not overheat.

And it's usually the thermistors, thermostats, lamps, power supply or connections thereof.

Leave the front cover off that shields the fuser lamp connectors and see if the lamp even comes on. If not, check the lamp for continuity. If that's ok then if you have access to another fuser unit swap it for testing. If you still get the error then the problem is probably going to be the power supply (secondary would be the connection).

            HI to all.

The pressure roller melt and stick to the hot roller. like the thermistor don't cut off, no sig nal to off the supply for fusing unit. my problem is i don't have extra power supply and main board to test.

            thanks

Got an MP201SPF today with this exact same symptom. Going there tomorrow to open up fuser and check for anything that might have caused that, but if anyone who got this before on this family of machines, any insight is welcome.

              Cheers!

Looks like an AC Driver failure for me, remove the PSU and check the TRIAC on it, which will drive the fuser lamps. Meter it out and check for short circuit between A1 and A2. A new one will cost you only a few dollar on a radio shack.

Apparently it was a one-time situation. A colleague in the meantime placed a new fuser and it's working fine. If I understand correctly, if it was the failed Triac, it would happen right away with the new fuser, right?

There are no remains of unsupported transparencies or anything that might've caused that, so we've no idea.

Re: Af MP 161 spf OVERHEAT

Well, we have a tech-in-learning who repaired some MP201 fusing units (fusing roller and pressure roller replacement, the usual). Problem is, four of the fusing units he repaired got the brand-new rollers melted together. As far as I know it hasn't happened with any other tech (the situation I mentioned before was a brand-new machine).

Since I believe it isn't a coincidence, I'm opening up the latest fusing unit that suffered that fate so I can find out what could've gone wrong, but I'd like to know if anyone else that has been there and done that who can give me some insight.

I'll bet the thermistor wasnt touching the upper roll

Hard to tell, but it ocurred to me. I told him to slighly bend the thermistor in the direction of the roller when replacing the damaged rollers. Thanks for the tip.
