    Ricoh 1035/2035/3045

I have been having problems with SC-542 - SC-546 codes. What happens is I replace the fuser unit with a rebuilt unit and usually a SC-542 code comes up. I reset the copier comes up ready yet then codes out SC-546 at that time the lower roller melts to the upper. This happens with new thermistors installed. Can the thermostats be responsible for this??? They're not blowing???
    Thanks!!!

Are you sure you're replacing the correct parts? Thermostats will cut power to the lamps when the temperature rises beyond a certain point. When the hot roller and pressure roller "melt" together the temperature must be really high.

I have seen pinched thermistor wires causing this. If the fuser was just rebuilt with new thermistors the wires can stick out of the cover and pinch to frame.
I always wrap them around the lamp wires so they won't stick out.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

                Sc 542

I am working on a ricoh 1045 fuser. I replaced all the rollers. Thermostats are good as far as i can tell. Thermistors are used but they looked pretty good aswell. I checked continuity over both lamps, they seem to be good. But when i plug the fuser into the machine sc 542 keeps popping up. Sc 542 has to do with the warm up temperature.

I am new to this field btw.

The thermisters are very easy to damage, they should be changed anytime you replace the rollers or even if they become dirty. They just don't tolerate being handled. Replace them both no matter how good they look.
