[CQ] LD260C MP6000 Yellow Spots Due to Drum Damage

Found random pit marks (looks like impact) in random patterns on the drum. Different sets of dots and none of them go all the way around drum. Replaced all blades, lube bar and drum brush. Machine ran about 1 1/2 weeks and same marks are on the new drum. Any ideas?

You might want to find out what the customer has tried running through the machine. Just a thought.

I had a strange one like this a few years back with pit marks on the OPC and it was narrowed down to the air con unit above the machine that was kicking out dirt that was landing on the by-pass tray and every time the customer used it the paper on the tray dragged crap into the machine. Shifted machine and issue disappeared.

Yeah, I have thought about that. Machine is in the mail room and the mail room guy is not sure what may have been run through the machine. The only thing that puzzles me is why there is no damage on the other 3 drums if someone has been running junk through. Also, the image transfer belt contacts the paper, not the drums. The ITB should have received the damage. That is unless something is sticking to the belt and riding around to the yellow drum.

Is the machine used for high end colour photos ? Sounds like a clay-based paper is in use for glossy photos ?

I had something similar to the above on a MPC5000: there where white "clay-like" lumps causing dev-roller voids in the developer unit. You could pick the lumps out of the dev unit and crush the white lumps with your fingers. No other tech I showed really knew exactly what the lumps where.

We changed the developer and the problem went away...

Did the lumps put pit marks in the drum?

Sounds like bad developer.. also check your filters and fans, too much heat causes developer problems.
