Ricoh 1022 Pressure Roller Keeps Popping out of Position.

I have a couple of machines in my area that develop the above fault about 3 times a year.

I'm called out as the fuser isn't fusing properly. When I open the fuser, the pressure roller has moved slightly and the bearing that is spring loaded, has moven inwards. It's a simple fix to reseat the pressure roller, but I can't work out why it happens.

I've replaced the hot roller, pressure roller and pressure roller bearings. I've also stretched the spring on the pressure roller and checked the frame is not bent.

    Anyone any ideas?

Is the plastic frame that the hot roller bearing sits in not broken, this can cause the hot roller to move about? Also, silly question, are you putting the spring end of the pressure roller the correct end? Cheers

CableGuy is right. Pull the hot roller out and look at the housing. The only thing keeping the hot roller bearing in place is a cheesy plastic extrusion, and they break off all the time.

I agree, make sure the pressure roller shaft at the spring end is lubricated. The bearing can get stuck and the spring may not keep pressure on it. If the heat rollers plastic collar breaks you can bend the metal above it down to hold it in place if you are in a pinch. These two fixes has bailed me out several times.

The best fix for a broken heat tube collar is to swap the bearings out for a set from the 350/450 family. There's an extra ring on them that will sit against the metal above the collar to keep the heat tube in place. For all of my 5627 and LD122 boxes I put the bigger box bearings in. It will take a little extra 'convincing' to get the heat tube in the first couple times you do this, but it makes life so much easier as you never need to worry about the heat tube slipping out of place. The part number I always used was A2323559, though the later 35/45 bearings should work too.
