    [CQ] Savin 9050 Light CQ

ok well i recently changed the Drum + blade + developer + charge roller and for about a week the copies came out dark now Ive had multiple calls for them and no fixes, the only problem i see is that when the developer was changed the developer lot number wasn't entered now as you make more and more copies they get progressively lighter but copies just look faded a little washed out maybe

thanks in advance for any suggestions

I have only one Savin 9050 in my territory, and don't care much for it: always getting spotty, or light or dark or some such. Today I replaced the developer again and the mag roller was black with toner, meaning the toner had to be scrubbed off with Scotchbrite. You might give that a try. I'm going to look for bulletins on this one...

    Good luck.

My old nemesis... I agree, terrible machines. While I deal with the Ricoh branded unit (MP4000/5000), the problems are the same. They have issued a redesigned mag roller to help combat the toner shading, but it can only be attained by purchasing the entire dev unit, not a cheap proposition...

I've been advised against using Scotchbright pads, or anything abrasive for that matter, as they will scratch the surface of the mag roller and cause the toner to stick to it worse than normal.

Basically the procedures we've been given, from a head tech at Ricoh, to deal with this problem is to clean the mag roller about every 75K to 100K using a Mr Clean Magic Eraser after having cleaned as much of the loose toner and developer off the roller as possible.

Initially you may need to take more drastic measures to get the stuff off the roller. I've found that the procedure in the service bulletin works fairly well; fold up a piece of clean paper a few times and use the edge of the paper to scrape the stuck toner off the roller. It takes a bit of time, but does not scratch the mag roller. Also, use that same sheet of folded paper to clean out the space between the mag roller and the doctor blade each time.

Replace the developer every 175K to 200K, as in these models, it never lasts the recommended PM cycle.

I've not personally used the Magic Eraser yet, as I haven't had the opportunity to try it out since we received this info, but the developer replacement cycle seems to fall between that range consistently with all the machines we service of that model/style.

Below I've attached the service bulletin I'm referring to, along with the one that pertains to the redesigned mag roller. It does not contain most of the procedures I've spoke about, but does have some decent information in it about the problem.

My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...

The OEM toner/developer in this machine is... not to put too fine a point on it .... crap!!! One solution that I have on good authority works well is to use the toner/developer from earlier machines in this family (2045/3045), although these were famously still dirty running, they had nothing like the dev related copy quality issues of the MP4500 onward.

Therefore, If you have the option of doing so, dump out the usual developer (B296-9640), completely vacuum out the PCU recycle coil and toner hopper to get rid of as much of the MP5000 type toner as humanly possible. Then change the toner bottle motor for the type from the 2045/3045 machine and refill the dev unit with the 2045/3045 type developer (B079-9640) remove all MP5000 type toner from the customer's premises and from then on supply the customer with 2045/3045 type toner.

If you have to get your consumables direct from Ricoh/Savin then this isn't an option, but I have heard from several reliable sources that this stops the mag roller filming issue period and gives developer reliability on a par with the 2045/3045 machines.
