Re: MPC4500 - Toner undetectable ??????
The few times I've gotten this message(Usually because servicing required me to swap around toner bottles) I have just left it alone because the only thing it seems to do is warn you about "Independent toner" and remove the corresponding "Toner level" bar. I think it clears if you put in a new one and if it doesn't then it will surely clear once a toner runs out and you then swap to a new one.
Can't you just tell the customer that nothing is really wrong, the only thing he'll suffer is not being able to tell what the toner level is.Comment

SP 5801-002. It's the worst part of SP 5801-001. That is why you need the birth certificate. There is another method but that requires knowing the exact memory address for the toner level affected.Comment

I also tell my customer to ignore this message and offer them to send a spare in advance to they are equipped for the moment of a sudden "toner end" condition.
Light copies is not to related to this.
Back in the day when the MPC6000 was up to date I was able to revive toner bottles with detection issues this way:
- backup nv-ram data -> SC Card
- perform engine memory clear
- restore nv-ram data from SD card
If I remember correctly the MPC refuses to work with the toners at all so you couldn't run them with "no toner level indicator" limitation, otherwise I wouldn't have to run this kind of procedure.Comment

Re: MPC4500 - Toner undetectable ??????
However, this issue is likely not because of the toner. If you only have light prints using black then it is very likely to be the dev unit. If the drum unit is also nearing its end then you might as well swap them both together and save yourself future worry.Comment
