Some USB-based installations are hard to restore once something is messed up, expecially if there are no proper tools available that wipes all driver files (removing just the printer within windows doesn't neceesarily do the trick). I haven't much experience installing ricoh MFP's this way but I'd probably go with the installer-CD-dialogue instead of a manual installation via "add printer" - better get the software-manual and another computer (testwise) to see if it works with a neutral system.

EDIT: Ohps - I was reading too fast - the machine DOES print via USB, kinda imagined something else so please forget all USB related thoughts of mine^^

If i open the printer jobs window, under printing status it says printing-error. No error is displayed on the machine display.

So when you send a print job to the machine, does the data light flash at all?

Nope.

Also is do not get that immediate "Failed to print" message. It takes a minute before giving the error

Try to print using a network cable - if it doesn't print, then your print controller is most probably fried.

If it prints via network, then try again to print via USB from a new PC (your laptop, for instance) to see if it does. Try with a new USB cable just for kicks.

Hi.

I can print using the USB cable but not through a network cable. The machine is in our workshop and also does not work through our network. I can ping the machine and the machine can ping my laptop. I do not know if the customer fiddled around with a setting or something.

these models are hell bad with network when it comes to installation,as you said you can ping but can't print it surely not the GW bord,
either it's something wrong with driver or network,

Also you did'nt mention Machine spec

MP171LN, drive would be DDST
MP 171SPF PCL6 or PCL5e

make sure you Download the correct driver but don't run it,just extract the zip file and save a copy on desktop.


Try following few things to figure out,

Rule out the network and just hook it up to your Pc Via network cable,

machine ip 192.168.1.1
PC Local Area Ip, 192.168.1.2

ping the machine's ip to see reply

now click
start
devices and printers

add printer

click on add network printer and let the Pc search for available printer's.see attachments if you not familiar with that,

now browse for driver and patch the driver file,

after completing the installation select printer properties and set the paper size to A4

make a test print

give it a try,sure it works

don't worry about that.did your pc find that printer as network printer with ip in earlier 2 step.
if it did then no problem,patch the driver file and complete the installation,,

Yes it did find the printer in the earlier step. I did continue with the driver installation but still no joy.

It's pretty strange,does this model contain a SD card?not familiar with this model but a year back i had the same issue with Mp2000LN...had to bring it back to workshop and it took 2 f....day's to make a print.

one more thing you can do is change the port from 9100 to 10001 or something like that.

I'm sure you missing the trick somewhere,

only thing you can do replace GW with other one and see if it works.

Did swap the SD card with a other machine. Still did the same. I also think i am missing something.

If you are hooking up directly to a PC without a router, shouldn't you be using a cross-over cable and using 169.254.x.xxx as an IP address? Please correct me if not...
