That's what is supposed to happen, it's the new unit detection method for the fuser. New machines don't come with the fuse because the PM counters are at zero anyway.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

Why would you put new fuse in unless it is already blown? Besides I thought you had to Initiate 5-810-02 in order for fuse to blow

Now fitting fuser sleeve assemblies daily on these machines, when I can get hold of stock. Either holes and SC554 etc, clicking noise from the belt or ghosting from the belt surface scrubbing off The replacement guide in the manual is hopeless but it's not too bad a job.
Had a first machine that got to life, 330K, and then stopped. In that case the fuse was required to allow access to service mode to reset the pm count. Seems odd but...............

Thankfully I have a week away from fuser rebuilds

Latest news I have found out is that there is a new fuser that has been released for the MPC4502/5502. They have removed the fuse completely from the new units and modified the fusing belts (i think), part number is D144 4063 from what I also understand is that they will be doing the same thing to the 3002/3502 as well

            Hi there!
Now, in Germany the sleeve-roller-assy is deliverd with 2 felts & a fuse to rearange the fuser-unit. I think, Ricoh has also problems what to do with some 54-sc-codes. I was used to that from develop/K-M, have they fired an engineer from K-M, who now works for Ricoh???
            Greetings...

Our local Ricoh website in the Uk mentioned them parts component change of Fusing Sleeve belt unit is the title the bulletin numbers are RD142055 and RD144072 for the MP C3002/3502 and MP C4502/5502 respectively. The reset Fuse is included along with two oil absorption pads to prevent oil leaking from the fusing belt!

Seems Ricoh dropped the price for the entire fuser unit below the price for that sleeve/roller part (Europe). I remember checking the price before and the complete unit was way more expensive

Try setting sleep/auto shut-off timers to 30/60 minutes on some of those machines to help with the belt life. I don't setup machines but I think they come set to never turn off from the factory. There is also a bulletin for a clicking or ticking noise from a gear in the fuser that has been modified for tighter fit and for the smears on longer paper set 1801-072 to 3%, turn it off and back on for immediate results. Fuser motor is driving slower than registration roller causing a buckle that smears the toner on the fuser entrance guide. Let us know if this helps, it has worked for me.

I've got this SC554 error last week, ordered a new fuser, but would like to carry the fuse so I can reset on site so I can leave the customer with a working (ish) machine. Where does one get the fuses from!?

                      Order from Ricoh.

Big hint: If you read the thread you would have seen the part number.

Yeah got it, 7 pages but found it!
but why bother with that switch mod when you can simply fit a fuse!?

That was before we had a part number that we could order. Have to be creative....

I see, I replaced an induction unit last week, it came with a new fuse in the box.
