MPC 6501 - Finisher not detected after firmware update

    Hi

I updated the Engine, system/copy and finisher firmware on an MPC 6501. Now the machine does not detect the finisher at all.

    Any suggestions?

You may have mistakenly loaded the the wrong finisher firmware.I've done this before and ended up having to replace the finisher pcb

As per above reply, we have seen this a few times, wrong finisher version loaded.

On some finisher models, the firmware is stored on an EEPROM. If this is the case, you can replace just that. If you have another finisher available, try swapping the PCBs.

I think ss12 has right. It needs a new finisher PCB.
There was something about the firmware is not fit for the board that was made in another factory after tsunamien.

Thanks ss12 for the quick reply and everyone else. Looks like i loaded SR5000 firmware on a SR4030. I will definitely not make the same mistake again

What result can give you is to connect the MP C 6501 to SR 5000 to be detected and will install the firmware. Once done reinstall the SR 4030 I do not think you need to change any motherboard.

I doubt if this will work. If I remember correctly, the firmware for peripheral devices, such as a finisher, are loaded to an EEPROM on the PCB of the peripheral device. Once the wrong firmware has been loaded, you have to replace the peripheral's PCB unless it has a removable EEPROM, in which case you can replace the EEPROM. If you have another peripheral device of the same model with the proper firmware and you have the proper equipment, you can copy the EEPROM.

I once had this problem with AF 3260C where an oversight joined the firmware update package from the machine an SR that was not installed. The SR firmware is placed wrong and the machine detected it immediately. I turned off the machine place that had SR without problems until today and go and 7 years of that problem. What I wont is a possibility that it worked, but as we all know technology has changed a lot since then, but I do not lose anything for trying.

Is it really easy to load the wrong firmware? So is it possible to load 3002 engine fw on a 3003? Easy mistake to make if one is in a hurry!

Main machine firmware is usually not a problem. The update process will only recognize firmware that is applicable to its model line. Where the problem can occur on machine firmware is on models that have a "Smart Operation Panel" option. SOP firmware can accidentally be loaded on a NOP, Normal Operation Panel, and the other way around.

                          Easy.
                          1. Load incorrect firmware onto card
                          2. Update finisher firmware even though the P/N on the display is completely different than the one you are getting ready to load onto the eprom
                          3. Curse profusely because you just smoked a board

But that can be corrected by loading the correct firmware, it doesn't necessitate a board change.
i haven't seen a SOP yet, but we did have a machine in the field that, somehow, had the SOP firmware installed, you get a warning message that you are not updating with like for like, but it will allow it to be done
