During copy process you will hear a noise that sounds like a toner mtr activation that seems to coincide with a one inch voided line going from side to side if running letter-r, by voided I mean say if you are running a color job your 1 in. line is absent of most color but you will see a yellowish color in the line, so noise and line seem to be working togeather. line travels aprox. every 7 inches. print jobs or copy jobs. I replaced all drum carts. They want to drop this stinkin copier out the window on top of my car with me in it. HELP!

Void bars 2.5mm wide in the half-tone yellow part of the image only, in the crossfeed direction, @ 57.66 mm intervals, on AR-C260M. Cracked helical developer drive gear for the yellow toner cartridge (268k copies). The effect is demonstrated best with self print #4. Replace the yellow developer drive gear (NGERH1530FCZ3), & poly slider (LX-WZ0094FCZZ).
You may have a cracked developer drive gear or you may have a bad toner cartridge. Both are very common.
The developing drive gears are on the inside of the rear frame. They can be reached from the front if you bring along a friend with very thin arms. My arms are too big to reach the drive gears. They just snap into the shaft. Also make sure each (there are 4, one for each color, all identical) has the prescribed shim to reduce wear.
If neither of these do the trick its time for a Color Calibration.
=^..^=
This applies to any of the four colors. The gears start to show damage at yellow & magenta first, then cyan, then black. So I usually replace all 4 then I see it happening at yellow or magenta. You don't necessarily get a void every 57.66mm interval. (3 x 57.66 = 172.98mm = 6.81 inches)If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

RE: BC320
Blackcat, Your reply to my issue sounds right on but you are stating 2.5mm on a 260, where as my problem is much larger than 2.5 mm, I am seeing about 1 inch. The 6.81 inch sounds about perfect. So do you think it could go as wide as 1 inch if the gear was cracked. I am going there very first thing in the morning so I appreciate all your adviseComment

You should replace all 4 toner gears as a set. Sounds like on top of a broken gear you also have one or more toner/developer units binding. This is common. After you replace the gears and binding cartridges, you need to make sure the firmware is current or at least close. An easy way to check is sim 46-6. If you can scroll to Q and R your okay. Make sure Q is set to 72 and R is set to 0. If not the firmware must be flashed or your nightmares will continue.Comment

Absolutely positive it is a faulty toner cartridge.
The mag roller on the cartridge seizes up and does not turn properly. The 1inch void is 1 rotation of the mag roller.
See this all the time mate. The noise and the 1 inch void you mentioned are a dead giveaway.
Simple fix. This is not the drums or belt. Definitely toner fault.Comment

You will often find that the gear on the yellow drum (not the dev gear, but the drum itself) sometimes has cracked teeth on the gear. I have always found that the machines that dont have energy save mode turned on end up with damaged yellow drum as it is closest to a fuser unit that is always on. The teeth on the drum gear aren't quite able to withstand the heat over a continuous period. They tend to last about 30K. If energy save mode is activated, they always last the full 50K. Thats my findings anyway.
The biggest problem with this series is the toner cartridges. Damn all-in-one peices of crap. Almost all of my calls on this machine (and there are lots of them), are C/Q issue caused by the toners either seizing up/not turning properly or leaving white streaks due to internal blockages.
I know about the firmware to 'correct' this problem, but I know it ddoesnt work very well. I dont bother with the new firmware on these anymore... too long for a problem that it doesnt even fix properly.
The only thing that lets this machine down is the toners. Most other consumables last alot longer than stated. I'm not saying its a good box though!Comment

The gear on the drum is ok it is the gear that drives the drum, coming from the rear of the frame. Have you ever replaced this gear? In the part book it shows a ring that looks like it secures the gear on the shaft but I dont remember seeing a ring holding the gear on?Comment

The small ring does nothing.... trust me..... the gear still cracks over time with the ring installed.
Just order NGERH1530FCZ4. I go through them all the time. I know the part number by memory. This is the latest part number here in Australia and has been the most reliable.
The gear just pulls straight off. Push the new gear on... you will hear a very small click noise when it's on.
while you're at it... order a few of the gears... you will see this again.... trust me mate.Comment

That coupled with the customers using god paper has alleviated 75% of the problems with the toner carts.
Low volume machines and crappy paper users are the cause for most of these calls now.Comment

Hi Comingapart,
I agree that there is an advantage of doing the firmware upgrade for the toner reversing function, but on all of the machines I look after, it has made very little difference. The machines usage varies from hardly used to totally whipped to death. All have still got faulty toners at some point.
I fully agree with your paper quality statement. It does help overall in C/Q and dust buildup.
I am just reporting that you will probably still see faulty toners with the new firmware. It's just the nature of the beast. Just trying to tell the other guys that the firmware is not the ultimate fix.
Cheers mate. Have a good one.Comment

I'm the only tech at my dealership that services these crap-boxes, so I'm willing to try anything to help these things run a bit better.
On the other hand, the firmware update procedure on these things is a total PITA and eats up a lot of time, so thats something to consider too.Comment
