ARM350N - Tray 1 jams and thumping noise.

Customer is complaining of tray 1 jams, there were 20 tray 1 jams in 300 copies. When I get there, I ran over 50 copies without 1 jam. There is also a thumping noise. Sounds like it is right before or after the sheet is picked up from tray 1. No other tray has this thumping noise. Any suggestions before I get a clutch pack.

If it's strictly when feeding from tray 1 I would check the tray height sensor, the lift motor, and subsequent interaction of the two. Also, the separation torque limiter sometimes makes noise...

Guys the first thing I would check on this is the resist roller assy, tray 1 feeds at a different angle going into the resist roller. if the resist roller has a flat spot, it will cause a thunping sound and jamming issues from tray 1 but it wont be as bad from the other trays. Hopes this helps.

Totally agree with mmru4real. The first thing you should look for with a thumping noise & multiple jams (especially in tray1), would be a worn set of PF rollers. There is a big chance of a flat-spot on the separation roller.
        Easy one.

          Hi Guys

last count I looked after about 137 machines of this model 350/450 355/455, buddy is right the problem and thumping noise is 95% of the time caused by the PF rollers. I would replace paper feed rollers, also the torque limiter, there has been an upgrade to the part. Also I have seen this jamming problem from tray 1 a few times because the registration rollers were turning stiff, I think it has to do with the angle of the paper entry. a few drops of lube where the shafts turn on the bushings will clear this up. I usually do this during PM calls also. It will save service calls.

I agree with the previous posters: Get some tires installed. There is another possibility (much less likely).

            AR-M355N
Misfeeds (jam code TRAY1). After rollers are changed jam code changes (jam code PPD_ST1), after running pre-perforated cardstock & repeated jamming. Tray #1 lower separation guide is broken at its front swivel. Remove the print engine. Remove these units: drum, developing, cleaning, registration. Flip engine upside down. Remove left cassette rail to install the tray #1 lower separation guide (PGIDM1892FCZZ).

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Almost the same as at my few copiers ( every copier has more than 2.000.000 copies ) Trumping noise from all trays but without any jams -alredy replaced exit unit, reg. unit, drum and dev. unit, main drive assy, and still nothing but copiers works without any problems. I am very interested in this NOISE!

Thanks, I will check out your suggestions out. The PF rollers are fine and I will get back to you with my findings.

Only problem with that is he would have jamming from all trays and not just tray 1 if it was the fusing unit. My guess is still registration unit, and especially if the gear on that unit is missing teath or it has a flat spot. Becuase Tray 1 feeds at a different angle directly into that unit compared to the other trays!

If my memory works ok,I replaced all spare parts from another copier whitch works OK and I got the same ressult. Everything what is turning around has been replaced and still nothing. Must be some idiot problem!

I cannot bring a solution for this one. I went back to customer location and with 50+ copies sent through tray 1 it never thumped or jammed. PF rollers look fine and the P/S rollers look fine. I am calling it closed for now.
