    AR-M207 Smudging/Smearing copies

Hello fellow service people. Hope I can pick your brains on this problem. The copier seems to be smearing the trailing edge of its copies. It doesn't matter what tray is being used, and replacing the fuser unit helps for only a little while. Has anyone seen/fixed such a problem? The width between the edge of the paper and the smudging/smearing is .5". That can't be seen in my scan.

I haven't seen it on this particular model, but I would look at the fuser drive. Hey, wait! This is a Pegasus! Its very common for the tang on the inside of the ring gear to wear down/break off.

When the fuser roller is turning too slowly the paper lifts up on the bed. When the trailing edge of the paper is released from the registration rollers the image is compressed as the the paper settles back down on the bed.

The heat roller gear may be slipping on the roller, or there may be some other drive related problem. Good Luck. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I have seen the drive unit cause this type of issue.

Is there something in the exit that the lead edge is catching on just at the point that your smudge is occurring between transfer roller and drum? Line up a sheet and see where the lead edge is. If it's consistently in exactly the same place and occurs only once on the page it may not be a drive issue.

After some more time with the machine, since posting this thread, we have come to find out its only about every 20 copies that this happens. The machine has only 16,000 copies or so so its not old. We will check out what everyone has mentioned but wanted to get that information out here.

          Thanks!

We had this problem once and found that the transfer roller assembly was not installed properly.

you want to try stopping the paper before the fuser unit i know of someone having the same problem and it turned out to be the drum not the fuser unit

Just a follow up. Tech replaced the majority of the main drive gears and it seems to have fixed the problem!

                Thanks blackcat!

                  You're welcome.

I've seen this many times. =^..^=
