    MX-850 Shifting margins problem

Hey all, I got a MX-850 that randomly will shift the image on the copy. It will do this on the entire job...almost like the start of scan is off but,it will not do it scanning to the PC's. Ive flashed the machine with the latest firmware and it seemed to be ok but after I left the customer called back. I looked on the Sharp IDNC site and didnt see this problem addressed.

    Assuming this is the MXM850....

So scans are OK. Copies are shifting. That would mean that prints are also off. Run a continuous set of sim 64-05. This will give you the PCL test print, with the margin markers in each corner. Line all the pages up and check for image shift by using the corner margin markers.

I'd also be checking the condition of the rego rollers, make sure nothing is stuck in there (especially under the dust cleaner), and perform page centering on each tray with sim 50-28, setup/print adjust, lead & offset. Scan each tray printout back in to correct any margin/page centering issues. Give all the DSPF rollers a good clean or replace if needed. The Hercules DSPF units have the 'double feed' and rego sensors inside it, so I highly doubt the issue is the DSPF.

Do you have either of the 3 drawer LCC units installed? I have found the reliability of the LCC paper feeding drops dramatically when those feed rollers get near 200K. It still feeds ok, but has alot of jams & timing problems.

There are no bulletins on this subject either down my way, so please keep us informed. I look after a very large fleet of Hercules machines, so I'm very curious what you find. Thanks.

The 850 does not have the double feed detection or the little CIS thing in the reg unit for off center, at least the canadian ones don't.

Is the image shifting front frame to rear or lead edge to trail?
Evil will always triumph because good is dumb.

Damn.... I stand corrected! You are too good Lawrence.

Too early this morning to be remembering that sort of info. I honestly didnt even think of that. 90% of our Hercs are the 950 & 1100. Totally forgot.

        My bad.

I'm still thinking rego though, or page centering.

Hey all. The image rides off the lead edge and rear frame. I just spoke with Ken Hill our RSO and he said that he has heard of this happening accross the US and that replacing the machine memory has been the fix. Im gonna try it and see what happens.

hey all. I replaced the RAM in the machine and I still had the problem. I called and opened a ticket with sharp and they recommened that I replace the the VR sensor and ahrness in the ADF. So far, it seem ok. Ill update if its still a problem.
