    AR-M550U fax issue

We have a refurbed AR-M550U with a print and NIC option added. When we installed the AR-FX8 the first message we got was "turn on power to fax". Since there's not a switch on the FX8, I gotta assume that message means we have another problem. We got a second fax option (cable and interface board too) and still have the same message at power-up. Once you press "OK" the fax will send to another machine, but will never receive. The fax we send from gives us a "no response" message. I've checked to make sure the 550 is set to Auto for answering purposes, and the ring count is at 2. We don't have another machine in the shop to test with, but have since tried a third fax option just in case. Our firmware is up to date, and I can't find any reference on Sharpnet or IDNC for this......just hoping someone has had a similar problem.
    Thanks,
    Al Bradley

By chance, was the additional memory (ARMM9) added? I've had some weird symptoms with them; if installed, remove it and try again.

Make sure the line going in to the fax is only a 2-wire line.
      Hope that helps !

I seem to recall that there is a main power switch on the AR-FX8. Also check that the interface cable or connector are not damaged. I've seen bent & broken pins.

OK, I'm wrong. It's the AR-FX5 that has the main power switch. =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.

          Mmmhhh,
it seems that only interface cable is connected but not fax power cable.

Thanks for the quick input folks.
wtroll......that's the way we've been heading. We definitely have voltage going to the fax option, but have not checked the other signals. Unless the problem is blowing each fax option as we attach it, after three we're leaning toward the machine. I guess tomorrow it'll be 'break out the schematic' time so we can figure out what's coming and going. I'm sure glad this one's in the shop and not in a customer's office.

The symptoms I got from the smashed interface connector CN1 was "F6-00" and "Fax Is Out Of Order." The parts I ordered to fix this problem were:

              fax I/F cable: QCNW-0219FCZZ
              connector CN1: QSOCN0082FCZZ

That and some fancy soldering on the MDMC PWB. =^..^=
