    AR168D check spf error message

Been working on one of these and did the sim 41-6 OC float adj with 40 sheets of paper per the Sharp tech bulletin. Results show good but still get the message when I try to use the DF, so I figure I will have to replace the milar or the carraige unit. Interesting thing is if I leave the 40 sheets of paper on the platen glass then the DF works fine. Is there another adjustment that I need to make. It just doesn't make sense for the DF to work that way and not the normal way!!

Thank you for your time and effort in this matter.

There should be a thread on this Bil. The scanner looks at the black marks on the white plate on the bottom of feeder to determine where it's location is. Either someone has cleaned the lines off with alcohol or the optics are dirty on the ends & it can't read the black lines. If it's the first, you can actually draw them back on with a Sharpie.
    Hope that helps !

Doesn't this problem appear if the 2 black lines are missing from the white reference sheet?.

edit.... oops, too slow, Tony beat me.

Sorry, forgot to mention the lines are there (we made them a little darker but it didn't help and cleaned the optics). I was asking more about the fact I can get the DF to work by putting the 40 sheets of paper on the platen glass. Will feed the paper and makes a good image. Just an anomaly that I thought might be caused by something else. Thanks for the responses. Love the avatar wazza!!

Well.... I'm out of this one.

We dont have the AR168D in Australia, so I dont know its little problems off the top of my head. Will keep an eye out for the fix on this one. Good luck.

As for the avatar Bill, we've all been there at some stage.

I would check for a out of position or broken DF hinge (right side).

try the float adj with fewer sheets. i never can remember the exact number of sheets to use when i come across this in the field. so i just put 10-20 sheets on the glass and it works great. mayb with the 40 sheets it actually up to high for this machine.

I tried it with 5 or 6 sheets and a little bit more but then I get an error when I do 41-6. I will go back and play with it when I get a chance (it is at the shop for refurb). Very irritating and common problem on these and the carraige unit is very pricey for this model $100+!!!!!! Thank you very much for all of the input.

I have had the scanner ribbon cable cause multiple issues on both the AR168's as well as the Ar208's it's worth a shot. It's always fixed my issues including doc feeder errors.

Has the optics been cleaned? I have seen where the mirrors get hazed over and has caused the check RSPF message. Another thing is to clean the scanner rail when dirty it slows down or binds the scanner. When using ADF it runs scanner over at faster speed than copying so it can cause an issue.

Thanks to everyone for all of the great suggestions. Finally got back to this machine and changed the carriage unit (per the Sharp TB) works fine now. Just such an expensive fix for an inexpensive unit.

                        Thank you.
