    mx 6201

    hello out there

A colleague has an ongoing problem with a mx 6201.

code H4-04 is displayed, firmware up to date and thermistors have been changed.
machine begins to warm up but never comes to ready. thermostats all check out.

any help to stop him tearing more hair out would be good

I've had H4-04 before and after several attempts to get this repaired (by checking all lamps & changing every single thermistat & thermistor), I ended up putting in a brand new fuser unit and problem never came back.

I remember it well. It was a new client and from day one, the H4-04's appeared, but never showed in the workshop. Mine would come to ready each time, but as soon as it entered pre-heat or sleep modes, it would throw the code each time. This was on a new fuser originally in the machine. I know the new fuser fixed it because each time I go there, the history card stares me in the face with all the details I wrote down at the time. Its done well over 2mill now since that fateful first day.

Bill, if you are sure the lamps are good and the thermistats/thermistors have been changed (including the non-contact ones), put in a new fuser unit and be done with it. Its a rare code to begin with, unlike the H4-02 lamp issue (which was solved with the modified lamp). Besides, keep the good web unit from that fuser for another day. I never rebuild any fuser unit that has had an ongoing H code history, as its just not worth the risk. Get rid of it, put in a new one.
I know its easy said, but thats my experience of it.

      Hello Wazza

Thanks for that info, I'll email him this page and make his day!!!! The price of a complete fuser against the time to rebuild the old one which has at least a million on it ....it's the cheapest/easiest option mate!!

Often we look for other items that are plugged in along side the copier, shredders, laminators, heaters etc. are all prime candidates. Although being as how a 6201 requires a 20 amp plug that would reduce the chance of that being the culprit.
In those cases it could also be a faulty wiring harness within the fuser or a bad connection. Many of their fusers are cheaper to buy that to rebuild anyway which is nice.
