So you are out of luck....not sure if there is anyway around it...try checking with Sharp directly.

Do any of you have the procedures for doing this? I saw one post that tried both the "Update" and "SDBoot" switches without it working. Right now, the customer is SOL without sending
EEPROMs 1 and 2 back to Sharp.

      Re: Admin Password reset

I realize this is a REALLY old post, but since I couldn't find any further information, I thought I'd share the solution.
The key IS in fact a switch on the MFP Board. not the update or the boot, but lower down. and it's TINY. you have to squint pretty hard to see it unless you've got young eyes.
This procedure was done on an MX-5111.
Power down the unit and locate the following Switch:

      SW2.jpgSW1.jpg

with the SD card at the top of the MFP Board, you'll flip down the switch on the right labeled 1. you more than likely won't see the label 1... just be aware it is the one on the Right.

insert the MFP Board back into the unit and power it on.

It will go directly into SIM 24. you have option 24-30 and 24-31, 30 is admin reset, 31 is (I believe) web interface reset.

Flip the switch back up, and reboot.

      Admin password should be reset.

If it is NOT, there are probably some Admin password protected files on the hard drive, go into SIM 62-14 to remove them.

Side note: if your machine has a Data Security Kit installed. Don't bother with this procedure, your screwed, you're machine is down like a fat kid on a see-saw.

Here's the Admin Reset procedure for the MX2640N:
          Turn off main switch.
Flip switch (left side) to on position (up).
          tempFileForShare_2017-03-30-16-09-20.jpg

          Turn on copier.
          Sim 24 will automatically appear.
          2017-03-30 16.15.57.jpg

          Select 24-30
          Press Execute
          Press Yes
          Turn off main switch
Switch DIP switch back to down position

          Turn on.

          boom!

Thanks for this post, it pointed me in the right direction.

            Re: Admin Password reset

Tech support won't even advize you on this dip switch. It is a very tiny black bank with 2 white switches in it. It is available on all newer models as I know of. I found it by having an MX-7040 we bought used with a security kit in it, and an admin password that had been changed. You simply power down the machine, then (after flipping switch 1) you power up, it will come up in SIM 26-30. You simply go into #1 in 26-30, execute it, power down, return switch 1 to original position, power on, and password has been reset to "admin"

This will not work if there is a DSK installed.

Depending on the machine you may have to call Sharp on the newer machine it is actually hidden in the simulation mode and you have to mess with the dip switches to get it to appear. It is on the webpage of the machine but you have to know the previous password.

                    Re: Admin Password reset

If you have a DSK and need to reset password you may be able to move MFP Board to another machine without a DSK swap PROM then update. This has worked for me on older units like MX-3100. also had to swap memory.

                      Thanks for this info,
Where is this board located, I have had the back off but cannot see any SD card slot.

I would highly recommend that you do not attempt this procedure if you are not familiar with with the Board configuration.

I might as well attempt it as its next to useless and will end up being scrapped.

The very small bank of 2 dip switches can be located anywhere on the MFP board. Once located turn off main power, switch switch#1 to on (opposite of it's current setting). When you power back up it will take you directly to the reset SIMM. Execute "password reset" power off, reset switch, power on and your pasword is now back to "admin"

                              Hi

Really appreciate all the info in this thread on how to set the switched to reset the admin password. So I know this might seem a silly question but can someone please tell me how to actually access the Board itself? I have also had the back of the printer but it isn't located there?

                              Thanks

The board is on the left side of the machine (lots of clips and one screw at the front to remove the cover).
