[CQ] MX3110N light black copies but prints are ok?

I have a color copier that has washed out black copies when using both the glass and adf, but computer printouts and self prints are ok. I've replaced the drum unit and re-calibrated the machine. When i make a color copy, the colors are ok, but the black is light on these copies as well. This is a fairly new machine with a low copy count. I thought it needed a black pm or a new transfer belt, but, as I said all printouts are fine. I thought maybe a scan issue, but the color is fine when I make color copies. I hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I start throwing parts at it.

Have you tried the white reference sim 63-02 or CCD calibration sim 63-05? Does it happen on single sided and 2 sided? This does have the DSPF right? Not the RSPF. The two responses above are really shots in the dark. We had a MX3100 do this with all colors and black and it was the main board (I forget which one as they have renamed them but it is the board on the left side of the copier) the one that has process control on it.

    Good luck.

Go to sys. settings, log in as admin, hit copy settings, hit other settings, check the adf and glass exp. settings. They may have been turned down by another tech or the operator. Bump these up and try your copies. Good Luck. Dan

I tried both sims and neither worked. I'll try adjusting the exposure in the admin mode, but it's only the black that I'm having an issue with. When I make a color copy with either the glass or adf, the colors are fine and in spec. But the black is washed out in both full color and monochrome copies. That's why I originally thought drum unit or dv. But when printing or receiving faxes, the black looks fine, then.

Check the white reference strips for the scanner. If the machine can't determine white, it can't produce black.
Clean your 2 procon sensors and run SIM 44-13 with the jig. Due a full calibration and run 63-8 and 67-28 to lock in the targets.
If your prints are fine and copies are crap, it would lead me to the scanner or optics cavity.

I think it may have been a sharp I worked on, or a canon even; It had pale copies.

I removed the scanner glass (2 screws left hand side) and wiped the mirrors with a clean cloth. They were quite filthy, although you couldn't see the dirt all that well. I guess a very light dusting of fine particles can cause pale copies. Everything was crystal clear after that.
