Customer says lines are randomly appearing when scanning to network. They have complained of lines when printing as well but not as much when scanning. I cleaned the optics as well as the laser unit and yet the lines are still randomly appearing. One of the periodic lines will be almost like a "dot matrix" type line about a quarter inch in thickness transversing the entire length of the page, while the other random lines appear to be your average dust in the optics scenario. At first I was leaning toward the laser as being the problem, but and correct me if I am wrong, the laser is not used when scanning. Has anyone seen this before? Help is greatly appreciated as this is one of our bigger accounts located in Boston and being a small company, we would like to keep them happy.

I suspect your problem is optics. Have you looked under the black plastic cover on the ccd? seen some spider webs do some strange things. Also if you scan something 2 sided are lines on both sides? -

Thanks! I forgot to mention, he did complain of double sided doing it more than single side.Comment

btw ... I will check the black box but I dont think that would cause a print job to do the same thing.Comment

Re: MXM 453N lines when scanning to network
Did you clean the surface of the CIS and white reference also? It also can get dirty, and would explain intermittency, since not all images are two sided. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: MXM 453N lines when scanning to network
I misunderstood, The random lines printing is likely main charger shorting. On the scanning have you cleaned the set of optics in the feeder (that does the back side)? I think the main charger is in the mx-503mk kit.Comment

Re: MXM 453N lines when scanning to network
you probably have 2 different problems. Problem when scanning is probably optics either in scanner or doc.feeder and you are right the laser is not used when scanning. The lines when printing or copies is most likely corona.Comment

Re: MXM 453N lines when scanning to network
-Check adf slit glass for scratches. Trying scanning in color and see if the lines change to blue. If so, you have an etch in the slit glass.
-Try changing the file format and/or compression in the image send settings.
-If it has a DSPF, check the second side CIS as mentioned.
I think I have a new catchphrase.

Re: MXM 453N lines when scanning to network
Just a query, if they're viewing the scanned docs as a pdf, check what version of Adobe they're using. The were problems with a particular version year, which would cause what looked like digital interference. As a test, scan a document as a .bmp or .tiff or similar and view it as an image and see if the lines are still present.Comment
