I went back to the customers location and checked to see is the oulet was properly grounded, I checked the two -wire fax line, and also performed a sim 66-2 to put all the soft switch settings back to factory. The reason I was not hearing a dial tone from the mfp.... the company that sold them the box did not install a speaker, an over sight on my part, nonetheless, the fax seems to be working so far at this point (fingers crossed). Thank you, for all the input and knowledge, I do appreciate it.

My customer bought a phone cable with wrong way wire seated. Always show line use when plug in.

Well that's a first, I can't say I've ever heard of someone not having installed the speaker before. I hope you ream them out good and hard for wasting your time by not installing a speaker and causing you and your customer to panic.

I have never neglected to install the speaker, but on some of the early facsimilie which you could not turn off the volume I have snipped the speaker wires, upon customer request.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Agreed, black cat, I have done the same as well but have always installed the speaker... especially if you have the option to turn it off via the control panel.

Plus, I have to add the fact that I should not have overlooked speaker was never installed; hence, no sound. Duh!! I just take the basics, or lack there of, for granted sometimes.

When a customer is annoyed by the speaker, I would first try covering the speaker holes with a couple layers of tape to muffle the sound before un-plugging the speaker or cutting wires (but the speaker was always installed).
